Been here over 2 hours waiting for a 3 course meal, had to wait 30 minutes just for starters and after complaining the chef bought out our main courses before we even had starters. Also none of the tables were cleared, with one having over 10 empty pint glasses on them since we arrived, over 2 hours ago. We asked why is everything taking so long they replied very rudely saying can't you see we are busy and avoided conversation with us the whole night.
My first impressions of this place was its depressing atmosphere. No groups of people, just single old men drinking alone. The venue was cold and the table grubby and needed cleaning. Things got steadily worse from here... When I ordered food, I decided to go for a special large 'Chip Shop Platter', which is only £5 on Mondays. However, the bar staff put it through the till as regular Fish & Chips and also over-charged me for it, as this was more expensive since it wasn't on offer that day. I pointed out the mistake when my food arrived. The male bar staff was not very helpful, and immediately asked if I was sure about what I ordered. I said yes, and pointed to the fact the bigger version was on offer, therefore why would I order the smaller and more expensive food. I also explained I was overcharged as well. The response was "If you want to *upgrade* to the Chip Shop Platter, you need to pay the extra for it". At this point, I was just very hungry so whatever, I gave them the extra money I apparently had to pay and waited for my food. Later on a nice female bar staff came out with my food to apologise and refunded the money I was over-charged on. That's the only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1. Also, as a side note, my friend phoned ahead to ask what time they closed as was told midnight. However, we were chucked out at 11pm, and I notice on here it says they are open until 1am. All in all, there's probably better places for you to spend your evening.
The food was ok. It came quick but nothing too special. Not the best, but my mother who I took liked the food . The main problem was the person behind the bar who served us. She was very dismissive and rude when I took back a drink that didnt taste right. She said she do us anther one because there was something that needed changing on the tap. She said she would bring it over. 20 minutes past with no drink. Went to the bar and she was very rude to me. I complained to the manager who never been told about this and had to be refunded for my drink. I hope that woman gets fired for her rude and not professional behaviour.
Eating barely edible chips that taste as though they have been refried from lunch, my gammon, egg and pineapple arrived with no pineapple...they don't do that here... apparently, even though it's on the menu, so they offered me a second egg instead. Let's see how they do on desserts... And Oh Dear!!! Of the 7 desserts on the menu, they only have 2 available. I wish I could show you how disgusting the spoons are that arrived with dessert, they are filthy! Not overly impressed out has to be said, won't be eating here again.
What a place i got barred from here for telling the manager that there was sick & poop up the walls in the men's toilets; I know, I'm confused as well! The best thing about it was I reported the state of the toilet to a member of staff, the manager later approached and told me there was no sick & poop in the toilets and that they were clean , I explained that another customer had alerted me to state of the toilet & I had seen it myself. I explained exactly which toilet it was; she said she would go and double check. To my astonishment she came back to me to tell me it was only a bit of toilet paper! I when to the down the toilet 15 mins later and the manager was on her hands and knees cleaning poop and sick off the toilets. I asked why she had called me a liar and she barred me! Shocking I know!!!
Very good of its kind. Nice big pub, tastefully updated. As always, good value for money. Curries not bad for what you pay.. Really nice service from the upstairs bar lady. Better than your average 'Spoons.
3 times in the last 8 months we have eaten at the Assembly rooms. The problem is my mum is disabled and there has been no access to the disabled bathroom facilities each time we have been. I think the large company that runs this pub is failing in it's duty to provide disabled facilities. We should not have to rush out after eating to get her to the bathroom in Touchwood. I have brought this to the company's attention in the past but obviously falling on deaf ears.
An old building with plenty of character, I recommend sitting upstairs where there is much more room to breath. The ceiling is so high I reckon a house could be built inside. Great night life and decent food. It well priced here and worth a visit.
Good stuff, was moar danker food under wetherspoons, the BBQ hot dog was the size of my dong, rammed it in my mouth straight away. Nothing but gr8 food and gargantuan erect phallic membranes when I holla round those neck of the woods
A lovely atmosphere and always great food from the standard menu you would expect from Wetherspoons. They also often have meals deals on too. They have free wifi.
