Welcome to Bar Convent York. Visit our beautiful 18th century buildings in the heart of York, home to England’s oldest living convent.
Established in 1686 by Frances Bedingfield as a Catholic boarding school for girls, Bar Convent York is still home to a resident religious community.
Our Georgian buildings and gardens now also house a museum, gift shop, cafe, library and archives, meeting rooms and guest house accommodation.
You can find more information on Bar Convent on our website, www.bar-convent.org.uk. We look forward to your visit.
