This museum gives a great overview and and is rich in information mostly about Vikings. The whole museum is underground and there is a bag check just do you know. The main part is on this large 6 person ski lift type of machine, which is amazing for younger kids who are tired after walking and exploring York all day. You still learn a lot and fly through this circuit with hyperrealistic people who help explain some of the story. After this, you gain access to a large archive of items related to vikings but it’s only one room, and there you can purchase custom coins from this museum which are hand made by the museum staff. As a whole, it’s a amazing museum and it’s worth a visit.
Ok so obviously this place is moreso targeted at kids than adults. It has a fun little talk at the beginning which requires audience participation, and a good amount of activities for kids to enjoy within the gallery. But the place is still so fun to visit as an adult! The ride is really interesting both what they tell you and the ride itself with the cool sets and animatronics and super immersive, and then the museum!!! SO SO SO much cool stuff and awesome staff willing to give you so much information and answer all your questions. They even had a staff member for the ride queue that showed off some objects and explained them. It was really great and I had the best time.nnSo great of a time that the only picture I took was of the poo.
Jorvik Viking Centre was brilliant! The ride through the reconstructed Viking village is amazing—the attention to detail in the life-like figures, the houses, and the ships really brings history to life. The museum section at the end with real archaeological finds is also super interesting, and the staff are incredibly welcoming. It's a fantastic, interactive experience for anyone visiting York. Highly recommended!
JORVIK Viking Centre is an immersive Viking museum in York, built directly on top of the original archaeological excavation that uncovered Viking‑age York Jórvík. The experience includes a ride‑through reconstruction of 10th‑century Viking streets and a gallery displaying artefacts found on the actual site.nnEntry costs £17.50 for an adult, and the full visit takes around one hour. It’s a genuinely educational and engaging activity, especially if you’re visiting York and want to understand its Viking history.
On a cold rainy mondaymorning, me and my wife, accompanied by our three year old daughter, went on a journey underground into viking era Jorvik.nnWe had a blast. The introduction talk by one of the vikings was fun and the ride through the viking town was a real treat. The giant viking poo was the most fascinating thing according to our daughter. Overall a really lovely experience and we would recommend this to anyone visiting York.
