The room was comfortable and clean, but the wardrobe needed a coat of paint and there were only 3 coat hangers. The shower would benefit from a soap dish or tray and there were no biscuits with the tea and coffee sachets. However, we really enjoyed our stay. The staff were helpful. The food and drink in the pub were excellent and it was very busy midweek so advisable to book a table. Handy for local nature reserves and about 40 to 60 minutes drive to coast or York depending on roadworks.
Stayed in the glamping pods behind the pub! A superb 2 days highly recommended! The pub was friendly the food was to die for and the accommodation was second to none! Clean warm and comfortable! Why wouldn't you book? The village itself is beautiful with a gorgeous 500 year old church nearby! Highly recommended! Rooms: Clean and comfortable Nearby activities: Loads to do and see Walkability: Quiet and lots to see within walking distance! Food & drinks: Great food and drinks!
Lovely little pub food was outstanding all homemade. We stayed for a wedding and had one of the rooms in a small building in the carpark like a mini bungalow. Ours was quite dated and had mould in the corners so we had to open the windows overall kept clean. Our friends had an updated one with newer furniture/bed. However we were at a wedding so hardly spent anytime in it. The pods look fantastic but alot more money. Breakfast was delicious again cooked fresh. Would definitely go back for food
We had a fabulous meal and the team at the Red Lion looked after us really well. The menu accommodated both the meat-eaters and vegetarian equally well and the dessert menu left us wishing we had more room.Service: 4/5
What a little gem of a place! We bought a deal on Groupon, £60 for two nights bed and breakfast, so for that money we really weren't expecting much, but we were pleasantly suprised! Check in was smooth. We had one of the cabin type rooms and it was basic but clean. The staff were always friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great. The only thing we would change would be the coffee, my husband is a coffee snob so likes his fresh coffee in a morning, nesacafe sachets are never going to cut it for him, but that's just personal preference of course. We had one of our evening meals in the pub itself and it was absolutely delicious. We had the steak and ale pie, it was enormous, we really wanted pudding but were so stuffed that we couldn't fit it in! We will defintely be back.
We stayed at Ye Olde Red Lion as a gift from my son. We had no problems with the booking process, check in was easy and we arrived on Wednesday, which was Pie night. Very popular and well worth the £7 each as the pies 6 or 7 different varieties were all home cooked. The steak pie was delicious. We stayed in one of the chalets, but had the option of taking one of the glamping pods at an extra cost. The chalets are neat and tidy, well heated, plenty of wardrobe space and hangers with a good selection of teas and coffees. We took the cooked breakfast which was tasty and wholesome, setting us up for the day. On our second night we opted for the steak dinner and again, we weren't disappointed. The Red Lion is closer to Beverley than York and both are worth a visit with quaint, olde worlde streets and excellent minsters. Not far from Beverley is the Humber Bridge and the country Park, and of course from there you can get to Hull. All in all a very satisfying stay.
Firstly I want to say how disappointed I was with my 2 night stay that was bought for us as a wedding present. The accommodation was awful, the twin room we were given was far from any kind of luxury the door didn’t lock from the inside the shower was either scolding hot or cold the mattress was lumpy and you were lucky to get a couple of loo rolls stuck high up on the window sill. We waited almost an hour for our meal that was included in our stay and you could hardly chew the pork when it came where as I noticed other people’s meals seemed to come out more quickly than ours and better presented!.. was this because we weren’t paying guests as such, breakfast was better shame your shoes stuck to the carpet when you walked in though. It’s a shame because had it been a nicer place to stay we may of used it regularly when visiting York hence we won t be returning.
We had a gorgeous afternoon tea. Incredibly fresh and a good variety. The lady who served us was very pleasant and efficient. We'll definitely go again. Food & drinks: Perfect
Rooms are perfectly adequate for our 2 night stay, I'm just jealous I didn't get a chalet/ute - they were gorgeous!!! Location wise is challenging without a car, there's no bus service in Sundays! Service was outstanding. Chris, thankyou for the lift . We were made to feel welcome and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Beautiful food, lovely old pub, staff very helpful and friendly. Couldn't ask for more. We will definitely eat here again.Service: 5/5
