We liked the idea of 'Windows on the Tyne' but were quite disappointed that while seated in the restaurant there wasn't much to see out of the windows. Mostly just treetops and the taller buildings on the horizon. The starter was simple and really enjoyable but my main, the green thai curry, was not up to standard. It was very watery and was served with plain rice so there wasn't much flavour, although it had a slow burn to it. My partner's main was very good and she couldn't fault it. The food was nothing special but the bill was significantly higher than other local restaurants so I wouldn't return. If you're already in the Hilton and don't want to go out then it's passable and the restaurant itself is a nice place with very pleasant staff.
A very relaxed dining experience. Good food at reasonable prices when you consider it is a hotel restaurant. The restaurant is cool almost too cool so wearing a jacket will not be an issue; those who not to fond of the cold would be best bringing a layer if it is too cool. Food was very tasty and well cooked. The new menu has loads of choices and the staff are very knowledgeable about the menu and will be happy to recommend their favourites. Will definitely eat here again!
Went for afternoon tea. It was ok, but nothing special. The sandwiches were reasonable, but rather than bringing a selection, as other venues do, we were allowed to order one type of sandwich from the choice of 5/6 on the menu. The mini quiche was good, as were the fruit scones. The cake selection was nice enough, but all in all, afternoon tea at The Hilton was not the memorable experience we had thought it would be.
Really broad range of choices - I was in a group of 3 where we chose completely different things but all were excellently prepared and presented. Very nice staff. No complaints here!Recommended dishesSteamed Vegetables, Onion Rings
Nice meal but had changed the menu form the one I seen online also watch out for some hidden prices £4.20 for a glass of diet coke. And a 8.5% service charge
Very poor quality food. Very very disappointing experience. Both had variants of linguini, cabonara and tomato and mascapone. Cabonara was entirely flavourless and was only less than half eaten. The other, in all honesty was pasta with a can of heinze tomato soup poured over. Chicken which topped meal was as dry and tough as an old shoe and on wrong plate. Garlic sour dough bread was not fresh. All in all a really poor meal. Bottle of malbec shared was nice. Waiter took cost of cabonara off bill. And asked if we wanted a free desert which was a kind gesture however we did not accept. We were hungry after travelling and expected much better from a hotel of this standard. Poor show Hilton!.
Windows on the Tyne restaurant is located in Hilton Newcastle. View from the hotel is good, food options in menu is also decent but only visit this restaurant if you have enough time and are good to eat cold served food. We somehow while staying in hotel gathered some courage to try out this restaurant for the second time even after bad experience from first visit and again we were served cold food that too after 1 hour. In the group we had Germans, English people and few Indian folks..
Very good food, reasonably priced menu. Definitely recommend this place. Very friendly staff.
Fantastic food and great service, with a great view of the Tyne, and some of its many bridges. Great attentive staff that where on hand when needed. Will definitely be coming back for some lovely food.
Nice restaurant overlooking the River Tyne, pricey but good quality buffet English or continental breakfast. Might get crowded at times and there is a waiting time to secure a table. Coffee was terrible, better stick with a cup of tea
