Located in the heart of Newcastle's legal district & close to the vibrant Quayside. Very nice restaurant with attentive service & pleasant ambience. Bar a little small if the restaurant is busy. Awesome range of champagnes! Food was very good with decent portions at a fair price. I just wish that some dishes weren't served on pieces of slate - a pet peeve! Makes it so difficult to eat all the food! Well worth a visit whether business or pleasure.
Having previously enjoyed a faultless meal and service at the Silk Room, myself and my partner visited the restaurant again recently before a show at the nearby Live Theatre and were once again blown away by the quality of food and drink on offer. If you can clock off work at a reasonable hour, their early bird menu is great value 3 courses for £18.95 but the a la carte is where the magic really happens with a mouthwatering selection of starting boards and great fish and meat main courses. You honestly can't go wrong here.
Have been here several times over the years for the Xmas menu. Always been a treat and I don't recall any of our large group having any complaints. Would recommend a visit.
Wonderful food, that steak was just incredible! strongly advised for who is searching for a nice, posh location where to take a girlfriend for dinner prices are reasonable for the high quality food you will taste there great wines choice and super friendly staff!
Intimate and cosy, fabulous food but lighting very dim - thank goodness for the torch on your mobile phone! Kangaroo Steak was delicious though.
Booked to eat at Silk Room after reading some positive reviews and reading the menu and liking the look of it. Arrived at 7:30pm on a Friday night to find only 1 other table filled which was slightly worrying to begin with. The food was Wetherspoons quality at higher class prices. One of the waiters whose name I didn't catch was fantastic for the latter half of our time there, however the other member of staff who served us for the majority of the time from the beginning stood behind the bar on his phone, not really paying attention to anything around him. We weren't offered any drinks after our first and after calling him over to ask for some, he brought them and left all the original empty glasses on the table. Just very shoddy and such a shame as it has the potential to be fantastic.
Slightly disappointed with my experience at Silk Room. The manager I think he was the manager was fabulous. Friendly, attentive ans worked really hard. His supporting team let him down. One young chap behind the bar, spent majority of his time on his phone, whilst the bar was awash with glasses, both used and unused. Other members of the team potentially new required direction, lacked energy and enthusiasm. Food was fine, my partner had steak, and I had sea bass. Steak was lovely, my fish was good but not great. Purely acceptable. If this was a school report card, the comment would be ' could do better'
A lovely atmosphere for drinks and food with the other half. Staff are very friendly and the food amazing.
Food and experience were splendid. Very attentive staff
This is the worst meal out I've had in a long time. Avoid this place at all costs. I wish I could rate it 0 stars. I don't really like leaving negative reviews as the hospitality industry is going through a difficult time at the moment. I've had to make a special exception for this place. I'll keep it concise, service was shocking, no salt and pepper was on our table a basic standard for any decent establishment the food took so long to come I genuinely questioned whether the restaurant would close before it arrived and the atmosphere inside the place felt like a morgue on a Monday morning. The prices and the food itself is by far the worst part of visiting this place, 17 pound for some mushroom pasta that was cold, bland and mostly resembled dog sick. During a cost of living crisis btw, sambuca does pasta for half of that and is far tastier and fresher. I'd urge anyone to buy a packet of supernoodles for 90p and avoid spending your money at Silkroom.
