Story

Established in 1239 as a Dominican friary, Blackfriars’ rich heritage is the cornerstone of Newcastle’s historic past with the friary being the jewel in the city’s medieval heart. As a former friary in commercial use today, Blackfriars has become one of the city’s most recognised restaurants and is now regarded as a local institution.

Have been trying various Sunday lunches around Newcastle and this is one of the best. Covid rules applied. Nothing was too much trouble. Starters and mains were excellent. Nice bottle of recommended wine. Even had dessert. Thank you to all the staff. I highly recommended this restaurant.

We had an amazing experience at Blackfrias! The restaurant itself has a medieval architecture that made us feel in the old times. The food is not only delicious but sophisticated. The ingredients have an outstanding quality. The staff are friendly and welcoming people. I highly recommend this place. We will definitely come back.

Best restaurant in Newcastle bar none. Wife and I had a fantastic meal. Can fully recommend the grouse main course. Will be back

Lovely venue but the food was just "nice". For the price I must admit I expected more. The food was beautifully presented but could definitely have tasted better. A bit disappointing.
