Wheel Inn
"The Wheel Inn is believed to date back to the 14th century and was the HQ of General Thomas Fairfax during the Civil War. The medieval Inn served as a place to stay where food and drink were served. The drink was sourced from the local vintners and breweries. At the heart of every village, where community was born.An opportunity to stay in this historic Inn, still at the heart of the local community. Completely refurbished inside, outdoors a new taproom, BBQ and smokehouse. Celebrating Cornwall's breweries and artisan drinks makers, sourcing and foraging food locally and sustainably to protect the natural ingredients of Cornwall."

Called here again as we'd previously stopped for drinks and saw the BBQ setup which looked amazing. Plus the staff were super friendly. Was expecting all meats fine by me! however; pleasantly surprised to find a good fish selection after having sought good seafood in Cornwall all week. Went for the fish platter pictured it was incredible, smoked oysters, mussels, sardines, john dory, plaice with house pickles and slaw. Cocktails were also really good. If you're near Truro - definitely recommend a stop here we'll be back if we are, I need to try the meat platter next!.
I had breakfast with a friend in The Wheel Inn last Saturday and loved it. The 'slab' almost defeated us, but we came out on top. The coffee the pub serves is amazing and can beat any trendy coffee shop in Cornwall or even London. The pub looked fresh an comfy, and the team looked as good, if not better! Definitely a winner for breakfast, and I hear that for a roast on Sundays you need to book weeks in advance. You will see us again, thank you!
Food looks and tastes great. We only popped in for a quick drink but we were seduced by the sight and smells of food cooking on the open fires. Great setup, great staff, great food and drinks. Heading back soon to sample more of the menu. Keep up the excellent work Neil and team
Well we were recommended this place buy a freind a few weeks ago and my god I'm so pleased we were,we drove down yo the carpark to a welcoming smell of a bbq qnd a lovely garden were we sat and watched the ducks qnd watched carp jumping ot of the water then we ordered food WOW I couldn't fault one bit of it plus staff we so helpful and friendly have to say food was very reasonable priced, before we went we popped into the pub very small inside but lovely next time we visit we going sit in qnd have a pint .
Very sweet place, nice decor inside, friendly staff. The only reason we didn't stay for lunch is that we all wanted a cooked lunch being quite hungry, but they only serve small bites, sandwiches etc. I bought some cinnamon buns, which I would call cruffins, and they were nice and buttery. You can sit outside overlooking the river below.
Nice wee place, stopped for a quick lunch here today and really enjoyed their tomato and burrata salad. Staff friendly and helpful. The oat milk flat white was also really good.
We were very excited to try the roasts here after it opened under new management so booked for my Mum's Birthday and when it came out on the boards it looked amazing, however unfortunately that wasn't the case at all. All of the meat was SO hard to cut, we asked for steak knives, they didn't have any so they brought us a little sharp knife and said it was the only one they had, so we shared this around the table to cut up our meat, even with the sharp knife my mum's beef was not able to be cut, I went and asked the staff if they could bring her some replacement beef as it wasn't edible, they came and explained they only had some well done beef left, my mum said this would be fine, after about 10 minutes... They brought some beef completely different to what everyone had before, very thin and well cooked compared to the thicker rarer slices we had, this was able to be cut so could be eaten, although it was unfortunately then quite dry. The mashed suede, the potatoes and the parsnips were nice. The Yorkshire's came out in linen bags before the food, served cold, which we thought was very odd. All of the veg took a lot of cutting, such as the asparagus, tender stem broccoli or not so tender etc. The cauliflower in the cauli cheese was mostly cauliflower stalks. Unfortunately although it looked amazing, this was the most disappointing roast we have had. Not sure if it's because we booked at 3.30 so late in the day? On the positive along with the bits mentioned above that were nice, we had a lovely gin and tonic, just such a shame about the main event, can't recommend visiting here for any more than a drink.
Absolutely loved this pub. The food was top notch. We enjoyed the delicious meat platter which had a selection of meats cooked on the outside bbq fire. Service was fantastic too, really friendly. They’ve got some great real ales and craft beers on tap. Definitely will go back soon.
We found this place on Google as we were looking for something on the way into Truro and I'm so thankful we chose The Wheel Inn. We had the meat platter and it blew us away. The meat was so well cooked and had just the right level of Smokey flavour. The atmosphere was great and the staff were really attentive. Would highly recommend this place to any meat lovers
Simply delicious, authentic BBQ food. What more could you ask for
