Built over 200 years ago, Viewfield House retains all its original charm and the splendid victorian interior is wonderfully intact.

Viewfield House has 11 bedrooms, ten are en-suite and one has an adjacent private bathroom.

Enjoy a Scottish house-party atmosphere with bed and breakfast. We offer discounted rates for stays of 3 nights or more. Open between Easter and mid-October.

Peaceful, comfortable classic country house near town On an island that can be very barren, near a town that can be overrun with tourists during the day, Viewfield House offers a tranquil stay, tucked on a small hilltop, among tall trees, an easy walk to the center of Portree shopping and restaurants, and a fine base for exploring the island. The rooms are large and nicely appointed, with comfortable bedding, seating and lighting. There are multiple common rooms to socialize, or tuck yourself away for a quiet game of cards. The photos on the Viewfield website are excellent representations of what you will find. We love to start the day with a hearty breakfast and a long look at the news. Happily, the delicious, high-quality breakfast was always fresh, with hot food made to order, cold items self-serve, all served-up by an enthusiastic, attentive young staff. Though we only ate breakfast here, we did enjoy some cocktails at night. Dinner and box lunches were also available with advance notice. Our room was #10, on the top floor, with a lovely view over the treetops, out to the bay. If there is one short-coming, it would be the water pressure in our shower - but the 3rd floor of an old house, no matter how well-kept, this is not a surprise, or to be construed as a complaint, simply a reporting. Happily, there was always plenty of hot water. We enjoyed our stay and happily recommend Viewfield without hesitation.
Our 2-night stay at Viewfield was one of the highlights of our family of 9’s trip to Scotland. The property is gorgeous, and we all enjoyed walking the grounds. The rooms were beautiful and unique, and we loved spending time in the drawing room before and after dinner. The staff was very helpful and accommodating, and we were glad the weather was nice enough to allow us to spend an afternoon sailing with Jasper. Breakfast was delicious, and we enjoyed the supper one of our evenings. I could not recommend this place enough! We would love to go back.
Four of us stayed here for 2 nights and it was so lovely! Beautiful building, grounds, rooms and decor. The staff was wonderful and meeting/chatting with some of the family was very cool. Walking distance to Portree shopping area, which is a must because trying to find parking there is tough. Skye is an amazing place, staying here only made it that much better!
Had to fill one night in Portree on our trip but very glad I did. Lovely guesthouse with very friendly staff and our newly renovated room Tack Room, at least it felt newly renovated. The breakfast was super nice and we were able to stay in the drawing room the whole of our departure since we had to work. We enjoy the stay a lot and would certainly recommend it while staying in Portree. Thanks to the whole team for their outstanding hospitality.
Absolutely loved our stay at the Viewfield House! Spent 4 nights and it was the perfect location for exploring Skye. The staff were lovely and helpful and the food was delicious! We will definitely stay again Rooms: Loved staying in the doocot! Felt very private and had everything we needed Walkability: Within walking distance from downtown! Food & drinks: Great food! Breakfast was delicious and the packed lunch and dinner were great to have as an option
The staff,accommodation and food was wonderful here. Our packed lunch was yummy . Beautiful property and view. Easy walk into Portree. All tip top. Very cozy. No complaints in that department. The only downside was the very aged taxidermy. It unfortunately was extremely decrepit..... ratty and falling apart . They simply exuded dirty. The horns/ antlers were fine . At least they could be dusted. Hopefully the very amicable host will consider removing them ? The house is so full of beautiful furniture and paintings and objects those mangy mounts wouldn't be missed.
What a place! Our favorite among all stayed at during a recent tour of Scotland by rail. It is grand, yet casually, elegant, with a fascinating history and absolutely terrific staff. Thank you Iona, Jasper, and the rest of the team for an absolutely wonderful experience!Rooms: 5/5
Easily the best place I have ever stayed. The room was gorgeous, massive, cozy, comfortable. Bathroom huge and with heated flooring. Drawing room lovely. Staff friendly. Location perfect. A dream.Rooms: 5/5
We had a wonderful stay in Skye at Viewfield House. The house is a charming blend of historical manor and hunting lodge and our room was well decorated and very clean. We enjoyed breakfasts in the dining room and evenings in the cozy drawing room. The cheese plate and soup dinner was a nice offering since it can be difficult to get a dinner reservation in Portree. The staff is excellent and very attentive and we enjoyed the house dog coming to say hello in the yard. It is a great location with a 10-15 walk to Portree and a great starting point for exploring the many sights on the island. Overall highly recommended and we cannot wait to come back.
We had a wonderful stay at the viewfield house. First, the house and yard are stunning. We felt like we were royalty pulling up to the house. Such a wonderful unique stay. Second, the staff are wonderful. The lady checking us in was so great and just made our stay wonderful. They have a small kitchen for soups and things for supper if you don’t have reservations elsewhere but let them know in advance. Food was wonderful. Breakfast was also great. We got to sit right next to the window and watch people play with their dogs. The owner came up to us and was very kind. They really take care of their people here and they clearly have a love for their estate.
