What a shame they didn't install air conditioning during its recent refurbishment.nOur family room was spotlessly clean and fresh.nExactly what you would expect and just like the photos.nBedding clean and mattress comfy.nNo breakfast except the breakfast boxes.nThe shopping centre car park can only be used for 4 hours during the day, do we couldn't park there.nI parked at station road carpark instead £10ish all day on Ringo, free between 18.00 and 08.00, 5min walk.nnWhen we arrived at 10pm it was 24°c.nHaving read the reviews I knew it would be hot and had paid extra to choose a room that only got morning sun.nUpon arrival our room was 27°c.nBy 7am it was over 29°c.nNot sure why they bothered to put duvets in the duvet covers, we took them out.nToday the temperatures have reached 35°c so I feel for whoever as our room tonight.nnWhen we arrived at 10pm, we opened the door and the heat hit us. Downstairs in reception.nThe lift smelt strongly of weed.nThe 3rd floor room was even hotter than downstairs.nnThis is a clean and cheap and cheerful place to stay in the cooler months, and ideally placed to get the bus to Chessington, avoiding ULEZ and merlin car park charges.
So very hot. I should have asked for a different room but they did supply a fan but the sun had been on the room for most of the day so the fan was only moving warm air around. Parking was fairly close and convenient and if you are in possession of a Blue Badge like I was, parking is free on the Swan Shopping Centre. Also located close by was a Costa coffee where I had a nice croissant and a cup of tea and Sainsbury's was very close by for extra water and snacks.
It’s a budget hotel and competitively priced so wasn’t expecting it to be great, but the really disappointing thing is the temperature. It’s stiflingly hot, windows barely open and no air con. There’s a fan but it just moves the hot air around. Apart from that it’s ok. Our room was small but comfortable. The shower room is clean and all works, although again very small. Staff polite and helpful with basics but nothing above and beyond.
The stay was very below average compared to other Travelodge's we've stayed in across London, we had our mugs replaced without fuss as they came across as being dirty. The majority of staff seemed to be wearing their own clothes non-uniform throughout our stay, the check-in was very quick, without any pleasantries, recommendations on the area, or guidance on our stay in the hotel with them which we've had at all our other stays in other Travelodge's. It's a shame as they do have a lot of good places/amenities around them, transport links and places for guests to visit during their stay. I think some of the staff could do with some enthusiasm/proffesionalism on their service, knowledge/interest on the area they are situated and being more accomdating. It wouldn't be our first choice to go back, it was only due to price/full bookings in other branches we choose to stay here, with some positive changes in customer service, cleanliness, and welcoming/accomdating services, they could do incredibly well as a branch, but seem to have a few things that let them down. We usually have a very postive, proffesional and accomdating experiences staying in the Epsom, Wimbledon Morden, Kingston branches to name a few. Below Average - Room For Improvement.
My deepest sympathy for those staying in the Leatherhead travel lodge today and tonight in what is the hottest day on record here in the UK. A night in a lead lined coffin is exactly what these poor victims will be experiencing tonight. I do and will always maintain that the Leatherhead Travelodge IS the hottest place on earth. Good luck to all. And keep hydrated.
