I booked a suite for myself and my bridal party to get ready in. The staff at the hotel were incredibly helpful and friendly. They made everything easier. The room was bright and spacious and was a good back drop for the day. However in terms of value for money and the cleanliness of the hotel I was really disappointed. Firstly, the suite was a little run down, with holes in the skirting and damaged cupboards in the kitchen. The floor of the suite was not clean, leaving us with dust and dirt on feet. There were silverfish in the shower room. For a 2 night stay, we were only given 2 tea bags, 2 coffees for 2 people. You had to call down for an iron - the iron and any extra tea bags were charged to my room.
We stayed in a one bedroom suite which was really great value. It had a large lounge with an open plan kitchen, a big bathroom and seperate bedroom. The quality of the fittings was excellent and the style was lovely, honestly bigger and better than most apartments in London. We didn’t use the restaurant but took a quick peak inside and it looked great, it is very highly rated. Location was better than expected as the neighbourhood was fine and it’s on the central line so fast to central London.
I spent a little over a month here while I was looking for my permanent place to stay. The experience was lovely and I’m very happy I made this choice. - First of all, the hotel is in the former Town Hall building, and they preserved a lot of the original elements. It’s very funky and quirky in a good way. - Most of the staff is very kind and helpful at any time. - there’s a regular restaurant normal London prices if you ask me. - and there’s a Michelin star restaurant as well! If you feel like treating yourself with something nice. - Although I had a longer term apartment booked, they did very thorough cleaning every day, plus provide complimentary water, coffee & tea. - The location is not far from the Central tube line and there’s also a bus very closeby that can take you to whitechapel on the district line. - they also have a pool that’s open until midnight It was exactly what I needed and it made my landing in London a lot smoother than expected.
We booked our wedding ceremony and drinks reception at the Townhall two years before our wedding date. There were red flags from the start: our contract had another couple’s name on it and listed the wrong fee. In the lead-up to the wedding, there were four different contact changes. While I understand that staff turnover happens, each change felt like starting from scratch. It seemed there were no proper handover notes, and I had to repeatedly explain what we wanted. We were offered a discount code for rooms at the hotel, but it ended up costing us more than if we had just booked online ourselves. The day before the wedding, we arrived and were told that the bar we had booked wasn’t actually available—apparently, it hadn’t been for over a year. This was news to us. I had to deal with someone I’d never spoken to before, even though I had already had planning calls with two other staff members. I was treated as if I had lied about booking the bar and was asked to provide our booking confirmation. The staff had a year and multiple conversations with me to verify this, yet failed to do so. We had been promised a fully stocked bar with dedicated bar staff. Instead, we got a room with one person serving drinks, who disappeared halfway through the event. Our guests had to serve themselves. The room itself had not been set up as requested, despite me providing a floor plan ahead of time at their request. They ignored it. On the morning of the wedding, I received a call asking if we wanted reserved signs put down, something we had already discussed in a call and over email. This should have been organized well before the day of the event! As the ceremony approached, the room still wasn’t ready. Our videographer and groomsmen had to step in and reorganize it because the events team was nowhere to be found. We had also put down a tab for soft drinks, but only two were served, and our guests had to ask for them. After the wedding, we emailed the Townhall to request the remaining balance from the tab. Three emails later, we still haven’t received a response. For a five-star hotel, this level of service is absolutely baffling and rude. I cannot recommend this venue—the only stress I experienced on my wedding day came from them. Despite all my careful planning, they ignored nearly everything. In stark contrast, our evening venue was fantastic. They had far more to organize than the Townhall did, yet everything went smoothly. Their professionalism only highlighted what a shambles the Townhall was. UPDATE: Since this review was left the Townhall hotel have refunded us the charge of the bar and given us a 1 night stay including dinner and breakfast at the hotel as an apology.
We stayed here in one of the Deluxe Two Bedroomed Suites on a Friday and Saturday night. We were staying in London for a family event and had my 93 yr old mother with us. Our suite was on the lower ground floor and so was rather dark however it was a good size and generally had all we needed. We did not eat at the hotel as we used our kitchen to make our own breakfast and were out the rest of the time. Our suite was large with 2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms a lounge with dinning table and a fully fitted kitchen area. This did not come cheap £881 for 2 nights with no breakfast even with a booking.com discount but then it is London I suppose. Pros: We had comfortable beds with fresh clean white linen. Pretty clean although did find a sock behind a chair in one bedroom left by a previous occupant! The hotel is near a tube station and rooms are down a quiet side street so there was no road nose at all. Our room LG2 was right by the gym and swimming pool which looked lovely but we did not use. We were able to sit in the foyer for a couple of hours after checking out at 11am on our day of departure, which family logistics necessitated, with no problem. Cons: As mentioned our suite was dark being in the basement this was not helped by the fact several of the lights did not work anyway. The fridge door in the kitchen did not fit and on arrival had not been pushed into place so the fridge was wet and dripping. We discovered a knack of closing it but the door need attention. The main bathroom was not great. The shower/bath tap arrangement was very complicated and difficult to negotiate, the hot water when it does come this boiling hot and the bath is too deep and has very high sides which make it very dangerous to get in and out of. There was no mirror in one of the bedrooms and the hanging space in the wardrobes did not allow for full length dresses. Beware that the restaurants in the hotel are both closed on a Sunday. breakfast service finishes at 11am and is very expensive according to another family member staying there. So when I asked for a coffee while we waited in the foyer they could not supply anything. I had to go to a small cafe down the road. There are few restaurants open in the area on a Sunday but apparently the Young V and A which is just down the road has a good cafe. Conclusion: it was a good place to stay given our family circumstances. House keeping and maintenance could be better. Restaurants in the hotel are expensive and there are few others in the immediate vicinity which look good. There are some about a 15min walk away in the Broadway Market area. Probably won't stay again personally but might recommend to others with reservations explained! The
A nice hotel with helpful staff. I once left my laptop charger there and they held it for me until my next visit. Try to get a room on the Ground Floor as they seem to be more airy. I once stayed on the top floor and it was quite warm. Overall. A good place to stay. Not a great location but using easily available electric bikes makes it accessible.
Went for a wedding. The hotel is superb, architecture is fabulous, the rooms lovely. The hotel was very warm throughout our stay.Rooms: 5/5
Lovely building, junior suit was ok. Shame about the first person at the desk we came across. Rude and dismissive, but the other staff were OK. I am a Marriott owner, and this is an affiliated hotel. Won't be using my paid for points. Didn't become chairman level by getting coupons. Pletty of other hotels to use and recommend Rooms: Need to pay better attention to the back of the bath. If you have a free-standing bath, you need to make sure they clean around it all. Orange staining/dirt is unsightly.
Stayed for 3 nights. On two occasions we did not have hot water to shower. Also the room is rather cold, despite the heating. Building is lovely and staff is friendly. But not very professional. Will definitely not stay at the town house again.Rooms: 3/5
Nice hotel but does not conform to the standards of Marriott if you’re a frequent traveller from the U.S. Titanium level, and I presume other levels, have no meaning at this location. No upgrades, no breakfast included, etc. Staff stated this was due to recent policy changes locally. Nice establishment for the East side, beware if expecting to be rewarded for you loyalty to Marriott however.
