We were here for the October half term, when we arrived accommodation was not as clean as it could have been, rolls of hair behind doors and under beds, mould on ceiling and in corners. Also had to make our own beds which wasn’t mentioned on booking. During our stay our windows and doors were tried by a scouse man claiming to have to wrong accommodation, which I thought was odd as he went straight to the back doors before trying the front door. This was reported to reception. We later found out he and his family are currently living on site although the claim there are people living there was always disputed by the staff when mentioned. On our first night a lot of the kegs were nearly empty and we were told this happens every year as it’s the end of the season. There was also a power cut on 2 nights so the bar was out of use for some time, once the power was on i tried to order food from the takeaway to be told it was cash only, went to the cash machine and that was also out of order. On one of our other nights a lady collapsed due to excessive alcohol consumption and the bar had to be closed to allow paramedics to attend. We were told the other bar would open but after 5 mins of waiting in the cold we went back to our chalet. To top it off I accidentally left a few items of clothing in the wardrobe which seemed to disappear, never returned to me and never fully investigated. Glad it wasn’t something more expensive I had left, definitely won’t be returning to any John fowler park.
I can see there are a few negative reviews here but for our experience we had a great time. The three bedroomed house we were allocated was spotlessly clean and well equipped.nEvery interaction with staff was positive and respectful and the site itself is super well maintained. It is by far the best of the JF sites we have stayed on.nSome of the car parking isn't right outside of accommodation and perhaps a couple mins walk away depending your unit but some is directly outside like ours wasnThanks so much for the great stay
Accommodation was smelly and mouldy, not cleaned well, floors were disgusting, food left on kitchen handles, beds stank of wet dog as did the carpets. Staff couldn't care less, dog poo where owners didn't pick up, dogs running loose around the park when it clearly states they should be on a lead at all time, No entertainment. These pictures are so disceptive, don't be fooled. The campsite is about a mile out of hayle, walking distance if fit and able otherwise u need a car. This is probably the worst of the whole John Fowler camps we have been too. Def won't be returning again.
All in all, a bit naff. We arrived 30 mins before check in and were delighted to know our accommodation was ready which was a bonus after a long day on the beach. On entering, the smell of must and damp hit you like a brick. Having spent the day at the beach the four of us showered only to discover a leak in the kitchen coming up from the floor probably the cause of the damp smell. It also looked like a hap-hazard attempt at a clean before we arrived as there was dust and dirt wherever you looked with two of the dining chairs clearly untouched for weeks photo for evidence. I went to reception and informed the member of staff on duty of the concerns and they assured me someone from maintenance and from housekeeping would come the next day Tuesday and I was given a couple towels to assist with mopping up the leak. Great. Obviously maintenance didn’t come and I’m not surprised as I’m sure there is a mammoth back log of maintenance jobs that need completing judging by the state of the place. Gents toilets in the bar/club constantly wet, tennis court shoddy, play area looked like a literal death trap, I could go on. Thankfully we decided we weren’t going to use the on site restaurant as I’m sure I would’ve had to remortgage to eat there if the prices are akin to that of the bar. £9.65 for a pint and a J20?!?! Scandalous price, especially when you consider you’re supping your drink in a run down dingy club. It therefore wasn’t a surprise when the host of Thursdays entertainment who was fantastic despite the circumstances made a statement to say that the club was shutting for the rest of the holidays and through September with no real explanation as to why. Her advice was to pop to the nearby park in St Ives and in truth I’d encourage anyone and everyone to stay there instead. The comparison between JF St Ives and Tolroy is chalk and cheese and the only reasons we stayed at Tolroy this year was because it looked better for dogs it wasn’t and we were very late booking so St Ives was fully booked, no shocks there. The only positive? The superb location. 30 mins from a family favourite Perranporth, 20 from beautiful st. Michaels mount, 20 minutes to Gwithian and a 10 minute drive for the park and ride to St Ives amongst many others. But it’s safe to say we won’t be going back to Tolroy unless there is a monumental change.
A really nice location to explore West Cornwall. Clean, well laid out up to date accommodation in a lovely setting. On site shop, bar and entertainment as well as sports facilities. We visited to do a motorcycle tour of the area.
