Ting and Ae Tapparat first fired up their woks at the Edinburgh Festival in 2012 with authentic Thai street food for the festival masses. It was a hit. Soon after they secured a small restaurant in the University quarter.

One of the best eats in Edinburgh. I love Thia food and Ting Tia have it spot on! Really nice staff too. Decor may not be to everyone's liking but once you taste the food you won't care. Price won't break the bank either!

My wife and I were visiting from the states and were told this was a student hangout and great budget place to eat. We gave it a try and were delighted. I had the Massaman curry and she had the sea bass. Both dishes were delightful. Tasty, just the right sized portions and very affordable. I recall both being under 10 pounds each. A month later and my is still saying that the sea bass was the best she's had, and this from a girl who grew up on the coast fishing off her father's boat and having seafood constantly.

Absolutely sublime. I can't say enough. It could very well have made my favourite Thai restaurant ever if I'd only had more time to work my way around the menu more. This and sister restaurant Saboteur, will be burning at the top of my memory of Edinburgh. Lo how I shall miss you both. If the food weren't enough, I did indulge in a couple of cocktails at Saboteur that were outstanding and I'm sure the same caliber is on offer at Caravan. They really do have it all!

Firstly, this place tends to get quite busy so it’s possible that you may have to wait a little bit to get seated, however the food is delicious and it’s definitely worth it! Plus people generally eat pretty fast! Ting Thai Caravan is quite a big restaurant but is really cosy at the same time! There are single tables and tables that you can share with other diners to give it that authentic feel of eating Thai street food. The food itself is absolutely delicious and pretty cheaply priced and is nice to share with your friends if you go! Get a main meal and several side dishes and you’re all set! If you’re not sure what to have (everything is written in their romanised Thai names, with the ingredients below) then ask your server! They’d be happy to recommend things to you! I highly recommend the side dishes (especially the coconut rice)! And the Thai iced tea is a must as well!! It’s absolutely delicious and sweet!

Used to frequently visit this restaurant, however on my last experience the service wasn’t great. We didn’t mind sharing the table as that’s their policy, but we were made to squeeze 3 of us into a two person spot, despite the restaurant being empty at the time. We were then rushed through ordering and once we had finished eating the waitress asked us if we could leave and pay at the till. We then waited 15 minutes standing to pay. Always really enjoy the food and can understand it being a busy restaurant but the attitude of the staff made us feel uncomfortable during our visit. Maybe a good idea to get take out rather than eat in!!
