If you enjoy a Flat White or Espresso then this is the place to get your daily caffeine fix! Great coffee.nnPlenty of seating available both inside and out, little 'seating pods' also available.nnFood is served from a hatch from within what looks like a converted cargo container. All very clean and tidy.nnEach table is numbered. Scan the QR code with your phone to get to the menu. Order and pay online. Wait for a message and collect your food. Eat and enjoy. Leave!nnThe system would have been improved had the WiFi password been on the table or in a more obvious place. There were a lot of fellow diners walking backwards and forwards trying to find the password! Once you know what's expected of you it is straight forward. Hardcopy menus are available.nnThe Yard Breakfast was satisfactory but our fried eggs were overcooked and crisp which was a shame. Poached eggs would have been a good option. Condiments, sauces and napkins all available from near the hatch.
If you are after a vegan/vegetarian burger, avoid this place. The crispy aromatic garden burger was incredibly disappointing. The patty is made from what looks like blended frozen peas and corn, then coated and fried. The bun was very sweet and the slaw was watery. I hope no one tries this as their first vegan burger! Shame the food was bad as the atmosphere seems lovely.
The wonderful thing about The Yard is that it's not so much a place to eat and drink but rather a community. It is striking how friends and family, including young children, gather to share great times together. Of course, it helps that the food and drink is just excellent. The coffee is great - it's Silver Oak, so it should be. So too the beverages with and without alcohol. The family-friendly food is outstanding, which explains why the place is full of families and parties of friends on a very chilly winter night. All of this is complimented by the best service I have had in a long time - attentive but informal, the service staff feel like a part of the family you are with. If you are in the area, this has my highest recommendation.
We visited this place twice during our stay in Ely. Great little find. Plenty of seats and a good choice of drinks from Coffee to alcohol. Reasonably priced. We had a Hawkstone lager and a peach cider. Would recommend.
I love the yard. Food is always delicious and it goes without saying the best coffee around. A big Bonus is that they are super dog friendly. Very relaxed atmosphere, staff are friendly and helpful. Has to be the best place to g in town.
