Beautiful birthday lunch at the Waterman’s Arms.nWe’ve been meaning to try it since it reopened last Autumn, I wish we hadn’t left it so long!nWe started with a few of the smaller dishes - lemon sole, mackerel and aubergine. Followed by the pork collar as a main to share with chips and flat beans.nThe mackerel and sole were stand out and the chips, not sure what you put on them to get them so crispy but they were amazing!nWe then had the baked custard with cherries, wow, looks deceivingly simple but tastes unreal.nA really well considered menu, £150 for 2 with 3 courses, drinks and wine.
Such a fantastic addition to Barnes High Street with a delicious menu! We visited during their collaboration with NY chef Jay Wolman, and the menu was outstanding. We were seated upstairs, where the service matched the high quality of the food. Highly recommend the cabbage—it was my favorite—as well as the sole and seafood rice. Our only regret was not ordering more, as everything looked so tempting. We booked ahead and got an early 6:15 pm slot, so it was fairly quiet when we arrived, but it started getting busy around 7:30. Definitely recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment!
Just lovely lovely food & flavours. I had the oyster with rhubarb which was a gentle taste surprise and brilliant. Could have eaten loads. Ditto with the scallops I had next. I loved the level of the curry flavour / not too much. Worked really. Well. Loved the skate. Guess only feedback to you would be more sense as a guest of where the fish came from - just out of curiosity. I like to know the stories of the food. All three waiting staff who served my trio were really helpful and not intrusive. Thank you. Tall gentleman who welcomed us at door made us feel welcome and at ease. There seemed to be a really nice spirit between all staff that made the meal fun as well as tasty.nnMusic levels in the restaurant were at right side and provided quiet ambiance not loud noise. Much grateful for that. We wanted to talk and could.
Some brill that was! Be aware that downstairs can get extremely loud and perhaps service is a little more commercial and less hospitality potentially understandable on a Friday night, but it is still a five star review.nFood is generally great. Sure, it’s super greasy, and yes it’s very modern British which can be both a blessing and a curse, lots of different influences from other cuisines, it’s clever and it’s full of flavour.
I can’t put words together to explain how special this restaurant is. First time here and won’t be our last. The service made you feel like you were the only table they were looking after and then there’s the food! Every dish was incredible. So much thought has gone into every flavour and the way it all comes together is mind blowing. Thank you to Joe and the team, we’ll be back asap!
