Mercure Newbury Elcot Park Hotel

Hotel is a decent modern revamp of an old country estate. It is a fair representation of a 4 star hotel. Nice views, food, decor and facilities. However what made it stand out for us was the staff. Elena on the front desk and the orangery staff were simply excellent. Their attention to detail with our young children was heart warming and most welcoming. I would highly reccomend this place for families based purely on the excellent staff

The hotel is stunning and the rooms are fantastic. The main problem was breakfast. They kept running out of food and at any time half the buffet was empty. The coffee was from a machine, cold and poor quality, the food was at best lukewarm and the toaster was on its last legs. A 15 minute wait for pastries was rewarded with a basket of burnt offerings that were raw in the middle! When questioned the staff tried to shift blame to the guests appetites rather than apologising. I saw a huge rat on the first night as we waited outside the front door. I suspect it was the manager!

Have stayed here a few times now, always reliably clean & welcoming. Lovely grounds & rooms are a good mix of modern & traditional country house.

During an all-day team event at this lovely hotel I received the best care and service and I believe my colleagues too. I was given tasty food modified to avoid many of myfood allergens ( not easy at all), and when I felt very unwell, the staff was very comforting, highly professional and took great care of me, I felt very safe and I would like give my biggest thanks especially to Lubo, who was ever so kind to me and made me laugh when I really needed it. I would definitely recommend this venue for companies' events/conferences as I believe the hotel staff is exceptional, and I have not seen such a top class service in a long time, especially that genuine.

It was hit and miss. I rang up for some food to be told they were too busy. When I complained they corrected it but that's not the point. They also provide a online checkin service where they send you the invoice without the need to check out. They forgot to send the invoice and then charged me for items I hadn't ordered and missed items I had ordered. Stupidly I told them and ended up paying more! They offered me a free drink but again that's not the point, get it right first time!
