The staff were so friendly and helpful and the food was terrific. A great Christmas weekend getaway. Superbly located on the seafront with easy walking of the beach and pier. Remembering that it is the oldest hotel in Brighton, the lift broke down while we were there and it was quite difficult to navigate access around the floors but again the staff were very helpful. Thank you for a great Christmas experience. We look forward to visiting again.
Booked by work. The pictures look great, and the reception and bar are. But the room and upper floors were dated and thread bare. That said they were clean. My room was musty when I went in and decor very dated. Bed was very comfortable and 8 would of slept well apart from the noisy bar followed by bin men next morning. I'm not sure how this hotel is 4 star as it needs a real makeover. The staff were great though.
Our first time staying at this old gem. It was arranged for a special birthday of mine, delayed by a year due to my partner having emergency surgery a year ago. It did not disappoint and we cannot thank the staff enough. We had the most amazing sea view room. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The friendliness and service from all staff was fantastic. Special thanks to Connor who has not been at the hotel long but whose customer care and service could not be bettered. He is a real asset to the hotel and nothing was too much trouble. He helped make our weekend go smoothly. We had my birthday meal in the hotel restaurant, The Wardroom, for 10 of us. The food was exceptional, as was the service. Thanks to Stan for that. All in all, a birthday to remember. I cannot recommend the hotel more highly.
We stayed one night in The Old Ship. The location is amazing right at the promenade. The hotel is very old and you can hear everything- people walking, closing and opening doors, street noises. I sometimes thought Someone is walking in our room because it was so loud. It’s no coincidence that they put earplugs in your room. The tv didn’t work, but we didn’t care about that. Also some lights did not work at all. There was only one duvet for the two of us which we didn’t really like but because we came there pretty late, we didn’t say anything about it. Maybe they would have given us another one. The rooms were clean but the windows were steamy and wet from the inside. All in all it was alright, but I wouldn’t recommend it to people with a light sleep. When we checked out, they didn’t asked if everything was alright. Probably a good idea.
Great location close walking distance to the centre of Brighton. Great water view. Easy parking either at the hotel limited or at the adjacent carpark. And best, we could stay with our Pug. Everyone was very helpful, & breakfast was delicious. Thanks we had a great stay.
Bar area and bar staff were lovely. Staff at reception were also really friendly. Rooms were slightly dated and we didn't have a very nice view bins and a brick wall Fabulous location right opposite the sea and walking distance to everything. Hotel had a lovely display about the history of the hotel which was interesting and it was very clean with a reasonably priced bar. With a bit of a room upgrade this could be an excellent hotel.
We paid a fair price in January for room with breakfast. The hotel is in a very good location on sea front and super central. Our room was quite spacious and bathroom had a bath with shower. We loved the very wide double bed, loads of hot water, flatscreen T.V. and plentiful hot English breakfast with cold buffet. The hotel had a lot of history and character but has been updated. We loved it. Would recommend and return.
The level of service was immaculate, staff helpful and the surroundings are lovely. I would return to the hotel in a heartbeat. I really cannot speak highly enough of the staff. They were polite and made every effort to assist.Service: 5/5
I've stayed here twice now. Although the rooms are on the cosier side and require something of a decor update, there's still something to be said about the historical feel of the place. It's right on the beachfront which is a huge plus, and I think price-wise a little cheaper than another big chain hotel next door. If you're not planning on spending your stay cooped up in your hotel room, this one certainly does the job. You also have easy access to The Lanes behind the hotel, within a few minutes walk.
Note: this was a Groupon voucher for Jubilee afternoon tea. Apart from it being too hot to sit inside, although the doors were wide open for some fresh air, it didn’t help much. The afternoon tea was beautiful we sat facing the seafront. And it was lovely. Staff were good although they could do better with being hospitable and being more friendly to customers. They were friendly and polite to us, but you can feel a-bit if hostility.
