My wife and I recently took a last minute break and decided to stay at the Royal Crescent hotel. We booked online the day before and not long after we had a call from Stacey asking our approximate arrival time and if we wanted to book the restaurant. A very good start. On arrival at the hotel we pulled up (double parked!) and was expecting a concierge service but we got our bags out ourselves at which point the concierge eventually turned up. He was friendly but didn’t explain at first what happens with the car as it was valet parking. Anyway we got inside and he showed us to the reception and we checked in. We were shown to our room by the reception girl who was very pleasant. We had booked a suite which was to have a view of the crescent gardens or the hotel gardens. We did have a limited view to the crescent gardens but only through the stonework at the top of the hotel!!! Not the best for a suite we thought. The room itself was lovely with a separate lounge, great bedroom and large bathroom. We were looking around the room and noticed the only coffee or tea making facilities was a Nespresso machine with half a dozen pods and a note saying if you want tea or fresh milk you needed to call reception. We found this very strange and you wanted a drink when you get up you have to phone down and order milk before you can enjoy your drink. Later we went down to reception and asked about this and on our return there was knock on the door and when we opened it there was someone with a tray containing several teas, hot chocolate sachet, kettle, 2 mugs and a kettle. Why wasn’t this in the room to start with?? When he brought it in there was actually nowhere to put it. To use the kettle you had to plug it into the wall and sit it on the floor. Not very 5 star. I have stayed in lesser star hotels that had better tea making facilities. On the subject of power sockets, for my wife to use the hair dryer she had to use an extension lead by the bed across the other side of the room. Again not 5 star as we would ha e expected a socket near the dressing table to plug it into and use. We used the restaurant for dinner on the first night and breakfast for the two nights and the food was excellent and the waiting staff attentive. On one occasion a little too quick to remove our plates literally the second we put our cutlery down. It would have been nice to have a little breathing space to savour the food. The hotel has a spa with swimming pool, steam and hot rooms. We used this on the day we arrived and it was very clean. One strange thing was that there was only 3 beds to sit down and relax. We found this very odd as there are mainly couples using it so if two are taken it leaves one to share if you are a couple. At least there should be 4! The hot tub looked good but the steps to it were very steep and being a rather tall chap it was very difficult to get in as I really had to bend over making it rather uncomfortable. I did notice ‘average size’ people also banged their heads. The bar area and staff were great and offered great food and drinks which we sampled on both nights. The gardens are lovely but due to the rain we had when we were there we couldn’t make the most it. On the morning of our departure I phoned down to reception to ask for the car to be brought around and to prepare the bill. At that point I was expecting the reception staff to say that the concierge would be up to collect the cases but this didn’t happen unfortunately. We took the bags down ourselves and went to reception to check out. When we got there there was another couple sat at the desk. The reception staff came over and presented my bill standing in the lobby. Again this isn’t the 5 star customer focused service I would have expected. The hotel itself is in a great location and is beautiful but from the points above it didn’t feel like a full 5 star standard. It’s the small things that let it down and could be improved quite simply. Would we stay again? Possibly but now we know what to look and ask for before we arrive.

You want to pay abit extra to get the best of the best then look no further. Luke Jones will find a wine to match any dish and any budget. The service is first class. Not a 1 hour meal if you come here but you will have time to enjoy all aspects of the evening. Simply amazing.

We went to the Royal Crescent Hotel for afternoon tea. It was splendid! That's the only word for it. Everything was completely top notch though the sandwiches in particular were very good. It sounds a small thing, but getting the balance between filling and bread is an art and it's one they've perfected. Two of our party of four had special dietary requirements and these were accommodated with no problem at all. The staff were attentive without being overbearing or obsequious. It was just a lovely, lovely afternoon.

I had afternoon tea here with some friends. It was quite lovely. There was a good variety of food and they were very accomodating about dietary requirements. The waiters were very polite and helpful. It was a lovely setting and a great experience altogether.

Stunning Hotel, our room is spacious and her tidy. The bathroom is a bit small and only a shower but the staff advised us before taking the room. Well worth a visit.
