This place is lovely, really lovely, so it pains me to give anything less than a five star review. However, it is also expensive, and is surely a very special treat for most visitors, it certainly was for us. My son has some quite specific dietary requirements and in the lead up to our stay, the team handled it very well, this didn't go quite so well when we first arrived. I won't go into details, it certainly wasn't terrible service, but it also wasn't exemplary. It was mentioned to senior staff on checkout and handled supremely well. We will definitely go back and I look forward to upgrading my review to 5 stars.

Really enjoyed the stay and the spa. The staff were excellent in every way. We can't wait to go back with the kids who loved it to.

We visited the spa which was small but nice, although I was disappointed there was no jacuzzi. There was a steam room and sauna and a small but nice swimming pool. We both had a massage too which was wonderful. We then had a cream tea in the hotel which was really nice, big warm scones and plentiful jam and cream, then fell asleep in front of a proper open grate log fire which was also lovely. 😀. We would most definitely go again.

Stayed at Woolley Grange for a weekend in mud August, previously we had stayed at a different hotel in the Luxury Family Hotels stable and been very happy, so we thought were would try this one. The hotel is beautiful, our room was clean and well appointed, and the facilities for families are amazing. Unfortunately the service was not. The cream tea that we ordered in the day we arrived took over 25 minutes to be served, coffees frequently took 10 or 15 minutes to be served, on one occasion a coffee order was forgotten completely. A minute steak sandwich took 35 minutes. On our final evening we sat in the lounge after dinner for 45 minutes and didn't see a single member of staff the entire time, eventually we just went to bed. For a hotel without a bar that relies totally on waiter service, this is unforgivable. These hotels are for families and people with young children. The unreasonably long wait times meant that meals that should have been relaxing, enjoyable family moments turned into stressful races against time as I gulped down food as quickly as I could before my 2 year old who had been in a high chair for nearly an hour screamed the restaurant down. That is not a privilege I expect to pay £400 a night for; needless to say I won't be returning to Woolley Grange.
