Green King pub at Castle end of the High St. I had a fine pint of Old Speckled Hen. Lovely inglenook but not lit in a mild spring day. Popular for food. Plenty of reserved tables for later in the evening.
Popped in here for bite to eat when I visited skipton. Real nice pub and the staff were helpful and friendly. The food was lovely, generous portions and reasonable priced. It wss nice and clean and tidy. Had bit of sport on, rugby, yaaay love bit rugby me. It was on low in the background but it didn't spoil anything. Not sure on public transport becsuse I was just visiting. I do no it's got couple car parks not far from the shops and market place. Not far from the canal either. It will have wheelchair accessible parking also. Would I come back most definitely and yes I would recommend Beef and ale pie, broccoli and mash Katsu chicken curry, rice and chips 2 meals for £13.49 plus 2 pints coke £20.00 altogether. My kind of price
Great family pub/eatery in the middle of skipton. Green king chain so good value food. Staff friendly and helpful. Food ordered at the bar with drinks, food came relatively quick. The pub is dog friendly with water available, they may even get a treat from the staff. Happy to eat here next time in Skipton a great 5 star place.
Came here for dinner whilst visiting Skipton. Ordered the steak pie which was on the 2 mains for £13.99. The pie was large and came with tender stem broccoli and mash and I also had a side of cauliflower cheese. The lady serving us was wonderful and she bought me extra gravy. The food was really nice and lots of it. Pub was clean and so were the toilets
Visited today 15/2/23 with 4 other members of my family. Had a very good meal and drink at a good price which we all enjoyed. The only downside was that the toilet seat was missing and there was a lack of soap in the gents toilet, otherwise the toilet was clean.
Do Not Go ! Especially if you are vegetarian or vegan. I went here with two other people, all three of our meals were disgusting unfortunately. Everything tasted like it has been frozen then reheated, I ordered a vegan katsu curry, with fake fried chicken. The 'chicken' was absolutely rock solid. I couldn't cut it with my knife, and when I complained to the waiter, he bluntly said " well it's not real chicken, so that's just what it's meant to be like". The first choices of meals were also unavailable, even though the pub only had one other couple eating ? Food took ages to be cooked, and half of it was cold, and solid ?? The waiter asked how the food was, but then got arrogant when we said what was wrong. Not worth what we paid at all, all three of us left half our meals, but we didn't feel comfortable asking for any money off because the staff were so rude. Very disappointing I would be happy to talk to the owner about everything in more detail.
We visited the Red Lion in Skipton on a journey home. I had fish & chips with mushy peas and bread and butter. The butter was the best part of the meal. The fish was mainly batter, stail bread and cold peas. My wife had chicken and mushrooms pie chips and a portion of cauliflower cheese. The pie was dry and tastless the cauliflower cheese had never seen cheese and not sure it had seena cooker as it was so hard.
Visited again today and a warm welcome as always, steak and ale pie on form as normal ham and chicken pie was also very good, keep up the good work and see you again soon.
This place is mis-described on Google Maps by the establishment. It is in no way set beside a river, never was a ferryman's haunt, and there isn't an oak floor in sight. It would be very disappointing if you had set out to find riverside quaintness - so be warned it's not so. I did try to discuss this with the staff but they were unconcerned. However, that being said, the pub is set in an an old building adjacent to a market street and has it's own quaintness. The welcome is warm and the staff friendly and helpful. It is quaint in it's own way, cosy, and the several large sports screens do not impinge on the atmosphere. The menu is extensive even in these Covid days and the food was hearty and heartwarming, arrived in good time after ordering and was tasty. There are several vegetarian options. Covid Security is excellent - not seen better - and is well monitored by staff. This made me feel secure for my own health. Hand sanitation stations abound, staff wear masks properly throughout, and they enforce the one way system to everyone's benefit. Access and facilities for people with limited mobility is good, and the whole premises is on one level except for a step up to the bar level, but this is irrelevant currently, as it's table service. Despite the misrepresentation, I enjoyed my visit, and will happily return next time I need a meal in Skipton town centre.
Service was good and reasonably fast considering it was a busy lunch time l had a burger that was well cooked and very nice, My wife went for a gf hunter's chicken which although it was presented well the chicken itself was quite burnt on the outside. She was offered a replacement which she declined.
