Second, visit in a couple of weeks to eat as their homemade pies are fantastic! They are also the only pub in the South Moor who serve food throughout the afternoon, enabling walkers like me too, not have to cut walks short to meet limited service times. Good service and friendly staff @ Food & drinks: The food is really good and great value. Plus, they serve Jail Ale. Noteworthy details: A great location for exploring Dartmoor National Park, whether for day visits or longer.
We visited this pub for lunch on the 7th March with some friends based on previous reviews, bit of a risky strategy but there we go! But I have to say we were not disappointed, the pub was warm, even though the fires weren’t lit and I have to say that as a permanently cold person, that was a good start! We ordered food and even though it seem to take a tad longer than expected to arrive, it didn’t disappoint, one of our friends, a self confessed burger aficionado, declared the Devon Blue burger the best he’d tasted Mile high burger with Stilton, onion rings etc etc High praise indeed!! The others had Ham, Egg and Chips and I had soup. The staff were really friendly without overdoing it and when we mentioned the number of positive reviews, her comeback was that they like to do what they did to the best they could and I have to agree! Totally recommend this pub, I only wish I could make it a local, bit of a problem with that as we live in Dartmouth, quite a drive away!
I stopped here for a drink after a walk on the moor. It was surprisingly busy for afternoon; lots of atmosphere. The "Jail Ale" , brewed a short distance away was excellent
Good pub, great beer. But we waited a long time for our food and when we got my and son's burgers was burnt and no real apologies or money off. Hate to say that I will never go back there again
I’ve visited this pub a few times in recent months. The food is great and service. Always made very welcome. Unfortunately this evening whilst sat eating a meal on my own there were a few people sat at bar being very rowdy. Constantly shouting and swearing. I’m not impressed.Rooms: 5/5
We were recommended this place by the staff at two bridges has they were not doing food. And we are so glad they did. Warm welcome from the barmaid Amazing food and service Beautiful decor Parking Thanks guys we really enjoyed the experience, hopefully we will be back soon.
Good value food and drinks. The rooms are warm and clean. Breakfast is amazing. An ideal place to stay when visiting DartmoorRooms: 5/5
Please get a baby changing table, I had to change my baby on a window ledge in the women's toilets and it was very awkward and difficult, his clothes fell onto the toilet floor also other women coming in and out using the hand dryer and the hand dryer was very loud and frightening for my baby and made him cry. It was very stressful for both baby and me. We were disappointed that the roast dinners had run out but the food we had was lovely. Meals took a while to come out but it was busy and service was great.
Food was amazing, visited with a friend, we both had different meals and pudding. All looked lovely and tasted good
We were made to feel very welcome today booking a short notice lunch. The service was very friendly and attentive from a number of the staff. They had treats for our little dog and a Lolly for our little girl which were nice touches. The food itself was excellent too. We will be back, thanks for making that extra bit of effort, we appreciated it today.
