We went here for afternoon tea. To say it was a complete disappointment would be an understatement. When we arrived, our table looked lovely. On closer inspection, our table cloth had a dirty mark on and the 2 chairs, not only uncomfortable, but material missing. We were left.... and left... 20 minutes later, our food arrived. It looked amazing, we asked if there were any vegetarian options, and the lady said she wasn't sure, but we had emailed to let them know. About 10/15minutes later plates of sandwiches arrived... eventually our tea and coffee. The sandwiches were lovely, the scones were overcooked and impossible to cut, and rock hard. These were replaced and they were very nice. The cakes were not nice, cold, like they were just out of the fridge, did not feel fresh. They were pretty looking, but a huge disappointment. We had to go and ask for more drinks... water, soft drink, up-sell to us, anything. We were left on our own only seeing anyone when they were replacing things. Felt for the young lady server. It was not her fault. Service was pretty rubbish, nobody there to say bye, thank you, it was all very odd. Would not go back... so much potential, and I hope they get some good management in the hotel. It is surely the first thing you need to get right... to give good service, we had very little.
Our room looked very tired, out of date and pretty cold with radiator hardly working. Bathroom with broken floor tiles and pretty dirty as floor not been cleaned. Beds uncomfortable. That being said breakfast was excellent with buffet selection of hot and cold food. Staff very friendly and it's such a shame the place has so much character but lacks TLC to make it that bit special
Our stay was for a tango dance weekend. The first room the shower did not work, the water pressure reduced it to a dribble. Calin at reception changed our room. This guy is the best. Nothing was to much trouble. Peter the chef baked a beautiful carrot cake and made sure the bar was stocked. Between Calin and Peter any problem was solved. They definitely need a raise. Also Monday morning there was only one lady in the restaurant doing the work of 3 people. Replenish, clearing tables and welcoming people and seating them. The management needs to get a grip with this tired hotel. Otherwise we had a great weekend and will be returning to the next event.
Room was alright. I had a suit but didn't feel luxurious. The kettle was very dirty with limescale. I went down to get a replacement , they said they will send it up. Waited for an hour it didn't turn up. Rang the receptionist who then sent one 10mins later but it was another dirty kettle full of limescale again. So did not make any drinks.nThey charge extra for every hour if you check in earlier than normal or check out later.
Booked in for anniversary and paid for a superior room which looks far nicer than other rooms and when we got to our room it clearly is not a superior room. There is no bath for a start! Took it up with reception and he lied to my face and said we did have a superior room. He had no rooms with baths left. I know there is one as it is on the website! I mentioned it was booked for a special occasion but he just looked down and pretended to type. Crap customer service. Will not return.
