The Helyar Arms

About

The Helyar Arms has new resident landlords. Patrick and Claire are welcoming and the pub is warm and clean with an open fire and good things to drink

Story

Patrick and Claire are resident landlords of the Helyar Arms and are welcoming and friendly. Both of them have roots in the Home Counties but feel their home is the West Country with both of them having family living nearby in Somerset and Dorset.

Patrick ran pubs when he was younger and Claire has been in the Hospitality business for many years and when The Helyar Arms became available they jumped at the opportunity to become part of this quintessential village community.

Lovely pub, we went there to get some drinks and ended up having desserts as well. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The place was nice and cosy and dog friendly. I have been there just once with my work and the experience was as pleasant as yesterday.

Last night my daughter and some friends stopped at the Helyar Arms for supper having booked for nine people at the end of a charity tractor run. They turned up with twelve to be told they could only have food for nine and were told to share, they could only order burgers from the menu and were asked to pay for their food before they had been served. They were made to feel very unwelcome ate their food and left. This is a shame they are a great bunch of kids who through the Young Farmers do a number of these vintage tractor runs for local charities. We will certainly not be going again and will recommend that others avoid it as well.

Lovely pub, great food and atmosphere, dog friendly, and the occasional roaring fire! They also show the international rugby (when it's on).
