The Gannet

About

The Gannet is a three rosette / Michelin bib gourmand Restaurant in the heart of finnieston, Glasgow. Serving the best seasonal Scottish produce.

Story

In the summer of 2012 Peter, Ivan and business partner Pete Read set off on a trip to the Hebrides to source produce for the restaurant they were planning to open in Glasgow's West End. By the end of the trip having met scallop divers, oyster growers, fishermen, smokers, farmers, game producers and many interesting people besides, they also had a name for their new venture. Something that evokes Scotland’s Hebridean coastlines, giving a sense of place and landscape and at the same time offering a cheeky culinary reference as a monikers for those with large appetites: “The Gannet” was christened.

Taking up residence in a vacant tenement building in the Finnieston area has proved a significant undertaking. Derelict for almost a decade, the space comprised just 3 walls and a single basement level floor over two stories when work started. Many months on and with the help of Crichton & Simpson Architects it has been transformed into an exciting, contemporary setting for and urban bar/ restaurant.

Expect a modern take on classical cooking at The Gannet, with menus that celebrate the best of Scottish produce, dictated by the rhythms of the British seasons. Whether it’s the small “bar plates”, the more substantial “restaurant” dishes or even our banqueting set pieces for larger groups, our commitment to using the best, seasonally available Scottish and British produce will always be the focus, We look forward to welcoming you to The Gannet.

An incredible experience that was well worth the wait. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. We ordered two courses each and we were also given stunning complimentary bread and a taste sensation mushroom doughnut. Every component part of each plate was delicious and combined perfectly as a whole dish. The Gannet is a must visit if you’re in Glasgow, but make sure you book well in advance.
A must visit - took us a long time to get there but it was fabulous! We had the seasonal lunch and each course was amazing. The presentation of the food and the flavours of each dish were an experience . The service was really good too - we will definitely go back, been raving about it all week!Food: 5/5
The Gannet showing yet again why it's the best. Impeccable food, unbeatable hospitality and beautiful and well thought-out surroundings. Everything from the snacks to the souffle and the soundtrack in between was faultless. Kevin's hospitality and knack of making everyone feel at ease and welcome is second to none, Amy's attention to detail and charm is amazing. Of course Peter and his team in the kitchen as always are plating up some of the best food in Scotland with the highest quality of produce whilst paying attention to the seasons and still offering affordability. For me it is Glasgow in a restaurant.
Visited back in December as a pre-xmas treat, had a lovely time and enjoyed all the food and the service was friendly and attentive. There were some great individual bits on offer across the menu and everything was very enjoyable, but nothing that really blew my socks off. I'd happily eat here again, but as it's on the pricey side it maybe missed some of the magic I look for at this price point to make me want to rush back.
Wonderful service from the moment we arrived and the cosy atmosphere was lovely. It is a limited menu for anyone who is fussy but we loved everthing on offer. The home made bread was absolutely delicious and the hock beignet left you wanting more. We both chose fish starters and mains. The sea trout starter was fantastic and the sauce was divine! The lemon sole main with crab ravioli was delicious but we felt it lacked any texture, it was just all a bit too soft. We would have enjoyed some sort of vegetable side. The addition of a candle in my husbands dessert for his birthday was a lovely touch. Would definitely highly recommend. Special mention to Jasmine who looked after us so well!
On a 10 day trip to Glasgow recently this was by & far the best meal I had. I found it on my 1st cold ,rainy day in the SEC neighborhood while looking for a place for dinner before the World Championships madness started the following day. The 3 course meal was amazing & the host Kevin was lovely & welcoming. The bread was divine, the duck sublime, the pasta delicious & the dessert was the best part. Highly recommend & I look forward to being back on my next visit x
We had an amazing experience at The Gannet, the food was outstanding, the service was brilliant and staff were all very friendly. I am quite a fussy eater but absolutely loved everything and certainly feel open to trying more new foods. We had the set price lunch menu which was definitely worth the price and will 100% be returning in the future! Vegetarian options: On the lunch menu there was one vegetarian starter and main which were both absolutely delicious! Dietary restrictions: There were a few things I couldn't have due to being pregnant but these were replaced with alternatives and were just as delicious if not more so!
An unbelievable experience! The food was utterly sublime, with every bite being a taste sensation. We took the 6 course tasting menu, as was an afternoon sitting, we didn’t choose the wine pairings. The cocktails were amazing, from a new twist on an old fashioned to the pink fizz! The staff were great, they explained every course in detail and were very attentive throughout and we never felt rushed, even though we were there for over 3 hours. Brilliant food in a lovely setting, we can’t wait to return!
A lunch, one month in the making: Having planed to come to Glasgow for a conference, I needed to pepper my long conference day with something to look forward to. A month ago, I took the liberty to book The Gannet to help me push through day 1, and boy did it help! Outstanding service aside, the food was exquisite: the oyster was very refreshing, the bread and butter, well, excellent. On to the starters with smoked duck on little beds of rhubarb, a genius touch that gives the texture of something akin to onion, but sweeter and milder at the same time. The fish main dish was a star, packed full of umami, fat, salt, and a hence of acidity, the buttery sauce called for another serving of bread to clean that plate up!! Finale was left to the wonderful Tess to choose and surprise me, who opted, and thankfully so for the strawberry soufflé. With a lemon/ginger pre -dessert priort, It ranks among top best 3 soufflés I had, ahead of the like Alain Ducasse's by a mile! Light, fluffy, sweet -but not too sweet! With a cup of excellent coffee and a chocolate/toffee finale for closure, what could more I ask for? Oh, did I mention they have delicious mocktails? Thanks for a wonderful lunch. Rest of the day was much easier!
Fantastic tasting menu and matching wine. Smashing service with dishes and wines being explained. All the dishes were great, tasty and leaving you wanting some more. Matching wines we very good, great selections from Eastern Europe, some you just would t expect. We also added a fantastic cheese course and took a vegetarian option, instead of the beef tartare… service was excellent in this regard, nothing was a problem. Great night all round. We’ll be back for more.
