Run by husband and wife team, Feargal and Fiona O'Donnell, our focus is on finding the best, fresh, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, that the midlands has to offer. Truly a nice experience! The atmosphere is very pleasant... but the food makes this place worth a visit. Most enjoyed the Carved John Stone dry aged chateaubriand! Done to perfection, by chefs recommendations... medium rare. The taste is something will be remembered for long time! The amount of the steak for two is more than plenty for four.... about 2 lb of high grade beef! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free bread option
Wonderful to walk into a place who evidently care. From the quality of produce, to the well thought out menu’s and friendly service - a really enjoyable experience. The burger was huge, whilst the steak in the sandwich was cooked to perfection.
We didn't have a reservation for lunch but luckily there was a table available. We were greeted at the door as if we were family friends. The atmosphere, the team, the energy and of course the food are all exceptional. It was the tastiest most amazing meal we have had in years !! We cannot wait to go back.
I can't praise this place enough. Great service with superb food, nothing was too much trouble. We had no reservation and walked in really chancing our arms. However we were never made to feel as if we were putting this fantastic team out. We have eaten here several times and never been disappointed. Lovely to see good old fashioned chivalry is alive and well also. Being helped with my coat definitely won brownie points!!Well done to all at the Fatted Calf. A fabulous dining experience. This is my second time in Athlone and my second time at The Fatted Calf. It’s been an excellent experience both times. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere with very attentive and friendly service. The food is amazing and creative ; last night I had a delicious steak with picco de gallo potatoes. They also have an eclectic drink menu; I enjoyed an old fashioned and an expresso martini. I highly recommend this restaurant and I look to coming back
The food was great, and a bit expensive comparing to the portion. Look at the plate of the starter, it’s almost empty but tasty
This was the best meal cider braised pork and chocolate orange fondant I have ever had. I’ve never had a more flavourful cut of meat in my life. Will gladly made the 90 minute drive from Dublin to come back.

Have to highly recommend this restaurant on both staff and food, absolutely delicious food, you won't be disappointed. Super staff welcoming, friendly and attentive, well worth a visit.
One among the best fine dine in of Athlone! The food served is of the finest quality and is also a luxury to the eyes and palate! Really impressed, highly recommended.
