Stopped for Breakfast. Was quick & hot. Great value for money. Got a cafetiere of good, strong coffee between me & my husband, plus a sausage/bacon n egg roll each for £10 total. Very satisfied with our visit.Food: 4/5
We can not wait to move to Wells and be nearer to this wonderful place! We first visited for a roast dinner a few months ago, without a doubt this was the best vegetarian roast I have ever had! Second visit was fish and chips and yet again we weren't disappointed. Thank you for such kind hospitality, great service and fantastic food! See you again soon x
Very busy tonight as it's a Friday night a week before Christmas but staff were amazing. So helpful and friendly and checking we had been able to order. We'd reserved a table beforehand Food was excellent. Pork belly well presented and beautifully cooked followed by a crumble and an orang posset. Staff even found time to bring treats over for our dog. Surrounded by friendly locals it made a great start to our stay in Wells.
We came here on a rainy day. And what a pleasant surprise! The welcome was warm, the atmosphere good and the food excellent. A nice touch was the recommendation of the various varieties of cider available. All in all a very pleasant experience.Food: 5/5
Great location, good pub. Ok breakfast. Nice rustic room. However, I have marked our weekend stay in Room 2 down due to the invasive music from the pub bar below which lasted for 15 hours of the day 8am to 11pm meaning it was not a place to relax and unwind. If you want easy access to Wells it is a good option, though ask to not be put in room 2 if you want peace and quiet. I assume other rooms are better.
After looking at places to eat in the morning before making our trip to Wells, we came across this place which looked perfect for a spot of dinner and the menu was inviting. We called up to book a table and were told that they would be closing at 5pm Sunday however as we got to Wells we walked in and asked again if there would be any tables available to which we were told, last orders were at 5:30pm so come before then. We arrived at 5 and sat down and ordered two starters of creamy tomato soup and 2 roast dinners which we were really looking forward to. Unfortunatly we were then told that there were no more roast dinners available and we had to order off the main menu which was either a Burger, a vegan burger or fish and chips. The waitress was what I can only describe as uninterested and rude. I requested to open a tab and was told no so paid for our food any drinks there and then. Our starters of soup arrived and it was so spicy we really struggled to eat it. When I asked the waitress is this meant to be spicy, she just shrugged, laughed and said "I don't know". Our mains then came out and my burger arrived cold with a burnt bun and some of the chips were under cooked. The fish and chips were ok. To our annoyance as we were waiting for our mains, another couple arrived asking for a table and when they went up to order their food, they ordered two roast dinners which seemed to go through no problem with another member of staff. By this point we thought it was a mistake and that they would be told they had sold out and refunded. However whilst eating our cold food, we watched the young lad bring out two roast dinners to the couple who ordered even though we were told there were none left. It was super disappointing after a great day of exploring and after waiting 10 minutes to get the waitresses attention we were ignored and decided to just grab our coats and leave. My burger had two bites out of it and the plate was barley touched yet no one stopped to check in on how everything was. We are not ones to cause a scene in a restaurant as our experience doesn't imply to everyone. This may have been a one-off occasion but we won't be making a trip back here anytime soon. A real disappointing end to such a great day!
Stayed for 2 nights in February. The hotel has a great location and is in the heart of everything you want from Wells. Unfortunately, we were put in a room that had 3 heating pipes running through it; even with our radiator being off the heat was very uncomfortable. The breakfast was nice enough and the bar had a good atmosphere in the evening. We had a concern about security: the general public could easily reach the rooms without needing a key. We appreciate that the building is old but felt some of the room furnishings and decor were outdated
We make a point of coming here every time we go to the wells food market. We havnt been for food for around 4 or 5 years but there is always a nice craft beer on tap. They are usually really accomodating of out little one too.Service: 5/5
We really enjoyed visiting and eating here. The food was excellent and although it was a very busy place, we felt we were able to chat easily. Would recommend booking Nearby activities: Right in the centre adjacent to the Bishops Palace, grounds and weekly market Walkability: Easy to walk to from public transport, other hotels and further afield Food & drinks: Delicious well cooked food. Good selection of drinks
Bar staff need training on products they sell and how to smile and say thankyou. Atmosphere might be slightly better if you didn't have to sit next to a open can of dog food ! Totally disappointed on visit strolled round the corner and found swan hotel amazing place and cheaper
