Huge cakes and scones with lovely tea and coffee. The views from here are fantastic from the top of Jacob's Ladder. It's a spot that everyone should visit! I didn't indulge in any of the savoury food, but it did look good. The views are good on both floors, there's lots of room.

Very disappointed We are locals to this place and for the last couple of years it has been our favourite in Sidmouth. It has obviously changed owners! Went there for lunch today, it has had a mini makeover and no attention to detail in the painting, so not really the classy look I think they are going for. The prices have increased and the quality and selection of food has decreased. The 20-30 min queues are the same. We had a cappuccino and mocha with a piece of cake and ordered the pea and ham soup each. My Mocha was luke warm and the the cake was not homemade. Some looked homemade but what my husband chose definitely wasn't When the soup arrived it had no butter to go with the roll and the soup was not hot. At this point I asked for some butter and told the staff the soup was not hot. It was removed together with my spoon. When it arrived back I had to ask for another spoon and again for butter. The soup was mediocre to say the least, not made with ham stock and the few bits of ham sliced not real ham was fatty and I found what looked like plastic in mine. It had a bit of parsley on it as a garnish and being as they then heated it in a microwave for me it then tasted of parsley rather than pea. This used to be a lovely cafe with good food and atmosphere at reasonable prices. It now professes to be a restaurant, if you cant keep the locals happy and just rely on summer trade to pay the extra for the fancy titled food of questionable quality, then I cant see you lasting long here. You will need the locals during the winter. But you can no longer rely on us

What a horrible experience this morning! This cafe used to have delicious home-made cakes. BUT these cakes are bought in, are all covered with castor sugar (a real sign of mass-catering, have no discernible flavour and above reasonable prices.DISAPPOINTING experience, not too be repeated.

Long wait in the queue as it did not seem to move quickly due to staff struggling with the tablets/tills. Hopefully this will be sorted out come summer

You are not able to get coffee and cake between 12 and 3 (the sign is not easily seen and as a previous regular customer I had never seen it before). You are worthless as a customer between these times unless having a hot lunch. I had not seen the sign and took my sick elderly mother and aunt in, sat them at a table and then qued for the normal 15 minutes to get served. I was served by the owner who was rude and said that she would not serve coffee and cake, as priority was given to customers having lunch (there were 3 tables available other than the one we were using) No customer service and no compassion was given. If I could give less than 1 star I would. I would NOT recommend this cafe. They also do not like negative reviews, and will block you if you are honest. There is a much nicer one along the seafront, albeit that it does not have the fantastic view. I would recommend looking at the view and then eating and drinking elsewhere.
