Connaught gardens is a lovely part of Sidmouth named after the third son of Queen Victoria a visitor to this quiet and gentile seaside place who opened the gardens when he was 84. I have been to the gardens a few times and each time they look well cared for and are full of plants. There is a nice little cafe at the western edge overlooking the Jacobs Ladder steps and the western beach. Evidence of the relative frequent cliff falls shows how the cliffs are eroding by something like 1 metre a year.

Where the Jurassic coast relents to small and subtle coves of tranquility and in the case of Connaught Gardens, wonderfully landscaped bedded flowers, plants and shrubs. Well worth a visit.
