Quaint, charming and has 17th century charm. Modern feel. Outside seating. Wheelchair accessible. Inside dining. Sublime. Pets welcome.
We were a large group 11 of us and they kindly put us in a nice quiet area with two large tables. The waitress was excellent and actively asked about allergies and checked with the kitchen on a gluten free question. Very broad menu. Fast and accurate ordering and service. Really good experience for my Dutch friends wanting to visit a British pub! Several of them had fish and chips huge pieces of cod.
Mmm The Chequers, Lovely place for a Traditional Pub lunch. Original Wooden Beams inside, watch ur head, some small walkways inside. Very presentable inside. Staff are very Curtious. Went on a Sunday, did not expect the pub to be fully booked, but they squeezed us in table for two. I had the Trio of Meats, Beef, Turkey & Pork Belly, all with a compliments, dessert was Rich Banoffee pie, to die for . Well Done Zoe Well done Chefs - Compliments.
Without a doubt the best pub in or around stevenage. Love the food, it is always perfectly cooked. I have the sirloin steak. The drinks are good and the staff are very helpful with allergies. They are also extremely friendly!
This was a last minute valentine booking and they managed to fit us in. Starters of calamari and mushrooms followed by the beef lasagne and the gammon steak for a main. Service was friendly, cheerful and prompt. Food was delicious. The pub is quaint and cozy with a lovely atmosphere that can be attributed to a fantastic waiting staff. Having a limited appetite they were also happy to put my leftovers in a takeaway box so I could finish my meal later. I feel sure we will be back again soon.
Came for a Sunday roast with family. Food was cold in the middle, pork belly "flabby" with no crackling, parsnips not cooked all the way through. No checkback and staff busy so felt I couldn't discuss my issues. Nice atmosphere and decor, shame about the food. Waitress didn't even ask if everything was OK when collecting the dirty plates. Very disappointing to have to pay for food that wasn't edible.
First time here, looked a bit grubby. Our table has dried on ketchup on the corner of the table, we was informed there was 3 things from the menu they couldn’t do. I had chicken burger & chips & my husband had hunters chicken. I thought it was quite expensive for what we had, it was just a regular burger & chips but was over £15. We wasn’t that impressed so won’t be returning
Sorry wasn't raking much notice as at a wake. Lots of fried food and more interesting sandwiches. Coffee station a nightmare; in corner on walkway. Would have been better on table where food to go and moved to small place when most people had first cup!
Really nice pub and restaurant.. food exceptional.nice staff. My only criticism is a bit to much mucking about behind bar joking about instead of serving. But I think there was a trainee and a bit of showing off going on.
The ambience was good, and the service was just about right, not too fast not to slow the staff was friendly, and the dinner was hot. I think the problem I found was the knife was blunt and I found it hard to cut the meat and Yorkshire pudding.
