Old pub in the middle of Oxford. The pub grub style food was very tasty and reasonable value. The pub has a few different rooms and space outside. Sports screens every where. This is the third time here and it is a very popular pub and rightly so. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Nice average pub in Oxford, clean and various seats. Good location. The drinks are good. The staff have a bit of an attitude, hence why I wouldn’t give it five stars.
Well above average roast beef Sunday lunch on offer here. Makes a nice change from all the mediocrity on offer in Oxford. We'll be back! They don't let you run a tab without leaving your card behind the bar which is an unpleasant practice. Being a city centre venue I can understand this policy for walkins but we had booked for lunch. Makes it tricky to leave a tip for the serving staff.
Plenty of choice for ale fans, a recent refurbishment has enhanced the venue, interior is dark on the ground floor, the upper floors are predominantly for dining, the courtyard is well used and offers a nice backdrop to the pub
Visited here on 31/5/22 and it was BRILLIANT. I got the club sandwich attached image for a mere £8.50, it was one of if not the nicest sandwiches I've had in a long time and it was a very large portion too. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a place to eat at whilst in Oxford.
The pub in Oxford is good, the staff is friendly, good beer, the food is good but the quality is changing day by day. Quite a lot of space. Value for money is good. To recommend.
We called in on a Monday night hoping to have a good meal, it was quite. Choice of ales consists mainly of light IPA's. After reviewing the menu we made our selection, I went for the lamb shank pie, which was just about ok, veg was not very hot, even the gravy was just warm, the lamb was not great, given their tag line World famous not brilliant. The wife asked for the fish cakes with new potatoes, when it came out no potatoes, when they brought them out, they were crushed and not very good either. Would not rush back.
Food - ok, fast. Beer from the order got to the table in 20 minutes after food. Dead insects on the cans and inside the glasses
A lovely little pub / bar which is hidden down an alley off the High Street. Serves food but we arrived a little late so the kitchen was closed. Loads of space in the bar area and the upstairs bar too. TVs so you can watch the sports news all weekend! Any bar with Jaipur on cask is a yes from me - and the Pinot Grigio wasn’t bad either!
It's fine, although I must have visited at a bad time as we all had our meals at different times and I was waiting an hour for mine. We were told that the kitchen was "backed up" which wasn't very reassuring. Another member of our party didn't even get their meal. Although we had a good evening, I'm unlikely to return purely down to the experience waiting for food. We didn't attend on the day of the half marathon - it was on the Friday.
