It's one of the most beautiful pubs in NCL. It's just across the Newcastle Castle and a few metres from the Tyne River. Drinks were good and service was quick. I'd recommend it as one of the "must visit" pubs in NCL.Service: 5/5
wasn't sure if they had real ale here, but thought I remembered it being OK. how wrong I was. it's fantastic. they have 8 ales and a couple of ciders on cask, plus a large keg selection! tried a couple; both well kept. excellent bar!
We enjoyed a beer and a board game here last night. + Such a lovely building. We loved it. Strong cask selection. Really tasty and a lot of variety across pale, blonde, gold and stout. Friendly and warm welcome from the bar staff - One independent brewery keg. More would be lovely.
Very nice pub and staff. Very nice indeed. Shame about the beer. Every single draft beer and cider is mass produced, additive laden, brewed in 18 hour crap. Not one premium real beer option. Even the so called real ales are mass produced chemical enhanced rubbish. Sadly won't be going back unless they change management to somebody who has pride in their products. Hate to think what their wines are like. Bet it costs them 2 quid a bottle.
Every time we come in the short guy who shaved his head or is bald instantly can ruin your day. What an absolute misery. A pub we use every time we go to Newcastle and the building is amazing, most the staff are great and the atmosphere is nice. But we've all started to notice that when you are met with his miserable personality, no smile, no hello, no care your day is a bit worse off. Also last Saturday the Guinness was horrible.
Enjoyed an incredibly clean pulled pint here last night. Really great traditional pub that has improved over the years.Food: 5/5
Lovely place with excellent beer on cask and keg. Beautifully clean and historic, it has loads of stained glass as well as seats outside across from the castle. Friendly staff, appeals to a range of people. You can come to read the paper, or chat and relax.
Recommended as a great Pub. I didn't stay or eat but we held a reunion here and the pub handled everything wonderfully. Great service. Great pub.Service: 4/5
A beautiful building and old style bar where you still get a bar coaster for your drink. The way bars used to be.....fantasticService: 5/5
A great place to have a drink. Lovely original decor, what I would describe a proper booser , loads of space, welcoming and warm atmosphere situated perfectly to hop into town or down to the quayside. A definite one if your visiting Newcastle, surrounded by some fantastic history and a true gem on its own Food: 5/5
