Very happy to pop in here every time we pass by the area. It's located right next to the Parkstone Station. Our last visit was during some football match with a full house! It was still Avocet. Great ambiance and civilised. It's back to the old name The Cow at today's visit over chucking down rain. The wood fire place warmed us up in no time! Right away feel home after a pint!nThe friendly bar tender kindly reminded us about lunch serving time. And we found the super lunch deal with great value! Food quality is high with proper ingredients and generous salad. We'll definitely come back more often!
We went in here to have some food and to watch the darts. The atmosphere was warm and cosy, however the food was much to be desired. I had a vegan pizza and I've never seen anything like it... Peas on a pizza!? This is the same pizza bar the vegan cheese instead of dairy cheese as the vegetarian pizza on the menu. Our other meals were of similar quality unfortunately. Good pub for a drink but would go elsewhere in Ashley Cross for food.
My husband and I went The Cow for food and drinks with friends at the weekend and had such an enjoyable time, the staff are always friendly and always have a smile for you. This is a local pub for us so we are able to walk to it 15mins but there is on road parking nearby.nWe were lucky to have had their new menu April 2026. We all tried the chicken wings, the cauliflower bites & BBQ chicken bites, halloumi squares just the right size were all delicious. The burgers were a hit, I’m not a vegetarian, but I do tend to go for that option quite a lot—and this time I’m glad I did. The veggie burger was really tasty and full of flavour. My husband had the regular burger, which he loved too! The steak and ale pie that came with extra gravy you never can have too much! which was full of flavour and the chicken and mushroom pie was great the chicken had whole mushrooms with it rather than diced bits which can make it abit mushy.nnAlso the Prosecco was deliciously cold the bare minimum you would think but not with the case in some pubs in my experience.nnWe are looking forward to going back soon.
Enjoyed a great Sunday roast at their intro price of £15 on till mid October I think! which was superb value. Everything was hot and nicely cooked, chicken was huge! Yorkie the only thing a bit ‘meh’ Lots of gravy and veg. Service was really good too. Such an improvement from past experiences here, well done to all! Deffo recommend.
A Lovely Atmosphere, but Room for Improvement on the FoodnnMy team and I recently visited the Avocet, and I must say, the atmosphere was delightful. The pub itself is beautiful, with a cosy and welcoming interior that made for a pleasant evening.nnHowever, we were a bit disappointed with the food. The hamburger arrived cold, the fish in the fish and chips was lacking in flavor, and the mashed peas were unfortunately quite watery. Additionally, the serviettes were only brought to the table halfway through our meal, which felt a little unorganized.nnWhile we enjoyed the setting and had a great evening together, we hope to see some improvements in the food and service, as the Avocet has so much potential to be truly exceptional. We’d love to come back and experience it at its best.
