Resplendent country house close to centre of Leeds.
Fantastic out-door space including a little farm - awesome in spring when the piglets are running around.
House is beautiful, if you enjoy looking round old houses then you will enjoy this one.

Lovely family day out. The farm is fab, and the house is full of interesting paintings and
nicnacs. The free audio tour helps keep the smalls interested. Decent cafe, but in good weather take a picnic and make the most of the huge park!

Brilliant for dog walking and a pleasant walk around the grounds. Ample parking and easy to get to. Cafe is very expensive for what you get so I would advise taking your own food/drink where possible.

We've been many times to Temple Newsam, as we live in the proximity. No disappointment until last November.
Last visit, when we took our friends to see the house, was more than disappointing - a con. The lady who showed us around could hardly be convinced to switch on the lights in few rooms. She was talking about walls, tapestries, carpets, etc in the dark, when we couldn't see anything! More than absurd! I was thinking of a formal complaint, but I haven't got the time for this.
I think is more than unfair to pay for a ticket and to be treated like this. Either the house is closed - full stop - or opened and people allowed to have an adequate visit.

Love this place in all seasons.
We live 18 miles away and try to visit several times a year.
There's something for everyone here, from open recreational fields, formal garden, lakeside, the estate house, the rare breed farm, café courtyard, woodland walks and open countryside.
It's on a good bus route and with FREE ample parking. It can be a whole day out experience. But equally you could just spend a few hours walking around the estate or visiting the properties like the museum or farm which charge a fee for entry.
Best entrance for us with a car is not to follow the main signs on Selby Road but to use a side road at a set of traffic lights, called Colton Road, a narrow road which goes straight to a part rubble part tarmac car park inside the estate entrance to the left, there is a small car park on the right through the entrance too.
We've brought our kids and the dog here for years and now they've grown up and we still come. But we come now after finding out recently, we have ancestral links to the estate itself by its first owner. So we have more reason to visit, I suppose. Even so, it's still lovely jewel.
