Lovely little house that's a bnb and a pub so much history a pretty court yard garden to drink in.couple of minutes from harwich quay and the beach well worth a visit..Rooms: 4/5
Small quirky pub that’s part of a guest house and gallery. Authentic venue for the sea shanty weekend with its own pirate, Spooks, who had plenty of tales to tell.
Six of us stayed at the Swan for the Shanty festival over the weekend and we all really enjoyed our time at this fantastic pub with characterful rooms - the hosts Clive and Susan, plus all the staff made us very welcome and we thank them very much for this. We will be back to the Swan and Harwich very soon.
Definitely a unique hotel this 15th century inn is REAL shabby chic, funky and cool. Has a very relaxed come and go as you please atmosphere and reportedly no rules ...... It has a self service continental breakfast ,is comfortable and clean the right mix of quirky and has a nice bar with beer garden to boot. We enjoyed our stay , dont expect a traditional BnB and you will enjoy yourselves.
Shabby, run down B&B where you have to make your own breakfast. A beautiful 500 year old building which the proprietor should invest some money in if they want to impress guests. At £70 a night it really is poor value. Dusty dirty rooms without a TV. Mis-matched second hand furniture of 1960 quality. Definitely avoid if you want style and comfort...oh and a decent breakfast!
I loved The Swan, it's quirky and possibly not everyone's cup of tea, but very welcoming, calming and relaxed; the staff couldn't have been more helpful. I would have given 5 stars if the bedroom had been better finished. We were in the attic on the left as you reach the top of the stairs, comfortable beds but a work in progress which needs some attention to detail.
Loved staying here. It felt like going back in time being here. There is a guitar in all the rooms so you can chill out and the landlord is a diamond. I would highly recommend this place. Oh.. good real ale too. 10/10
The hottest night of the year so a Real Ale in the garden went down well and clearly it would be really cozy in colder weather with the wood burning stove going or on a live jazz/music night Who needs TV when you have all that and an historic 500 year old building with English/French roses and fleurs de lis in the plasterwork and ancient pictures and texts too? Very friendly and helpful owners with delightful and helpful sons In the heart of old Harwich 3 minutes walk from the pier and 10 minute drive from the ferry to the Hook of Holland. Lots of free parking nearby
We had a nice hostess but the room ad bathroom where less than nice got our drinks for free for our troubles. Also the very late check out was not a problem and was for free
Only a partial review. Went in there to see a couple of sea shanty acts and had good service and a decent pint. That's it.
