This statue stands in tribute to James Outram, 1st Baronet, a British soldier known for his services to the British Empire, especially in the Indian Sub-continent. His command of the defence of Hyderabad against 8000 Baluchis, earning him honorific the "Bayard of India. Perhaps his most famous commands was during the Indian Rebellion of 1857-58, when he relieved the siege of Lucknow and ending the rebellion. The statue depicts Outran in military uniform wearing the Star of India. He stands in portrait pose just in front of a captured cannon. In his left hand he holds what appears to be a scroll, ,lifted up to his chest. In his right hand, he holds a sabre, his hand on the hilt with the point of the sword resting on the ground. The statue stands atop a plinth and around the plinth are representations of sword and rounds shields. A worthy tribute to a hero of the British Empire.
I enjoyed the view of this statue and the manner in which it was presented. The surrounding garden is well looked after. Beautiful!
