Have been here quite often lately. Can't complain about the food, the roast is amazing. The reason I give only 3 stars, is the service. Maybe it's the time of day we always go, which is late afternoon when it's quiet, but the service is rubbish. You would expect better service when it's quiet, but the last 2 times we've been we've had to ask to order, and also ask for the bill. This is after waiting for quite a considerable time. The staff, although lovely and friendly, seem more intent in chatting amongst themselves instead of dealing with one table. Such a shame, as this let's it down. Once, I will let go, but twice leads me to write this review. So The Star Inn, concentrate on your diners more in future.

We booked a meal 3 weeks ago for my father's birthday. When we arrived we were given a scrap piece of paper saying that four of the prime menu items were not available (steaks, chicken, etc.) On advice we were told they were busy before Christmas and had not restocked. We should chose something else. We did and that turned out to be not available! When we finally did manage to order from the abbreviated menu all hot food arrived on cold plates so the food was cold within minutes or it was immediately returned to the kitchen. Finally, management charged us £93 without recourse or apology. We will definitely not be going back.
