I was surprised by this little museum. The displays are covered in three floors and feature art, objects and clothing. Each area has a theme such as death, afterlife and marriage and is an incredible blend of cultures. Only takes 20 minutes to half hour to see everything so a good extension to a cathedral trip. The museum is free to enter but a donation would definitely be appreciated.
St Mungo Museum of religious life is exactly next to Glasgow’s cathedral and has many artifacts to see and many things to learn for other religions. I really liked it how simple they described the other religions. From third floor you can see the Necropolis too. And it’s for free so why not? Totally recommend it!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
I went with my mom on a Sunday, the staff were nice, let us take pictures and it was less crowd and free. My mom wanted to see Glasgow and we explored, thank you for preserving so much culture and making it free for all. The Volunteers were so helpful, friendly and the place is beaming for history, lived it and loved it! Guys look at my 59 year old Mom, she was so happy, can’t wait for her to come again.
Small museum on religious subject matters. The most interesting thing for me is the Glasgow Forum of Faiths Declaration. Warms my heart to see a city that respects all religious beliefs and cultural backgrounds. The Zen Garden is also very calming, as the name implies and offers a beautiful view of the Glasgow Cathedral behind.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
This is an unique museum that explores the importance of religion within people’s live around the world and across time. The display occupy three floors, and informs the visitors on religious practices of various dominant religions and also other smaller in size varsities of beliefs. The museum was well curated. This building itself occupies the site where the medieval bishop’s castle of Glasgow once sat. Ir was opened in 1993 and is free of charge. The staff is friendly and provide helpful assistance.
I would go for a 3.5 but no option. It is something you can check out in a few minutes and the toilet is a great addition considering the cathedral near by or necropolis have none. So add it to those visits combine : maybe if you are religious it will be a better visit for you.
Amazing place to go also lots of things to learn. Staffs were friendly too.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Where can I even start with the amazing experience I had here. Me and my mother came up on a week day to Glasgow, and decided to pop into this museum to fill time. We were both very interested in it already! The environment was clean and welcoming, and staff greeted us on each floor and entry showing us the way round, offering to answer any questions and truly showing a lovely smile each time. One staff member in particular, who was downstairs by the zen garden when we visited, showed me a map on places to visit when we came back up, had a chat with me answering questions and offered advice on different events and open places around the area. Alongside these wonderful people, the museum itself is fascinating. It’s so open and varied from all its artefacts and information. There’s truly something for everyone, and a lovely energy to this place. Even its spectacular view of the cathedral and the necropolis which I’m sure is popular. Definitely a visit for all, and a huge thank y out for the staff who made it an experience.
Very interesting place, I have never seen a museum like thisVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Such a beautiful place to visit when you have the time. Some parts of the museum is closed but the amount of things you can see and learn about, is well worth it. Highly recommend it.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
