Spencer House
"Spencer House is a rare survivor of the great aristocratic palaces that once adorned London. Built in 1756-66 for the First Lord and Lady Spencer in a prime location overlooking Green Park, the house immediately became an important architectural landmark.Following its impressive ten year restoration, Spencer House can once again be experienced in all its Georgian splendour. The State Rooms may be hired for a range of private and corporate events whilst the public can enjoy guided tours with our Blue Badge guides."

It was wonderful to step back into history as the first Earl Spencer would have lived it. The restoration has been masterfully applied. The guide Betty was wonderful. She was knowledgeable on art, architecture, and history. It is well worth a visit if you are in London. It is located by St James Palace, so you could visit Buckingham Palace and The Horses Guard as well. It is only open on Sunday, so some planning is required. Do book ahead.
Spencer House is a hidden treasure. The guide was so knowledgeable. She told us about the interesting history of the family and the house. The restoration was so carefully done with attention to detail. It was a joy walking from room to room, seeing the numerous artworks and colourful rooms.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes

We went on a tour today with a very knowledgeable guide Lindsay who was fantastic with the History of the Spencer family and the whole refurbishing story of the House. A highly interesting and enjoyable experience. Would absolutely recommend to do.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
We came for the Sunday tour, and loved the excellent guide who took us through the 8 rooms in approx. 1:10, going through the architecture, furniture, artwork, and the house's history. Note that a lot of items are reproductions, and photos are only allowed in two rooms. You need to prebook, though note it's free if you have the Historic Houses membership email them. Toilets are available onsite, and the woman's in lower ground is fairly ornate. There was one large slight of stairs on the tour, but easy to navigate.
Had the most wonderful time on this tour. We unfortunately did not catch our tour guides name but she mentioned that she loved the national portrait gallery and was phenomenal. I highly recommend visiting if you have a little over an hour to kill -this is a perfect Sunday outing. So interesting, beautiful and impressive. We were very lucky to get a rather small group at 3pm on a Sunday. They also mentioned that they are only open on Sundays because the building is used for offices during the week which was very good to know. I think this tour is more than worth the price, it is so thorough and interesting and all the staff are so helpful and kind. I would love to come back. I recommend buying tickets in advance but we were able to buy them there as well.
A wonderful tour of a stunning historic home. Our docent Jenny was extremely knowledgeable and kind. The house is well-preserved and is so much fun to tour. Highly recommend this!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Great tour of the house by Norma, an outstanding Blue Badge guide. The house is amazing, but also the stories of the men and women who lived and worked there. Tours go every Sunday, get on one, they last about 75 minutes and you finish in the garden adjoining Green Park. Supplementary tip: Pop in for Sunday Brunch at nearby Chutney Mary, the outstanding Indian restaurant.
