View the memorial near the Wellington Arch. Quiet atmosphere. The Royal Artillery Memorial is a First World War memorial located on Hyde Park Corner in London, England. Designed by Charles Sargeant Jagger, with architectural work by Lionel Pearson, opened and unveiled in 1925, the memorial commemorates the 49,076 soldiers from the Royal Artillery killed in the First World War.
Outstanding monument to the Royal Artillery. The soldiers are epic. The inscriptions eye watering. Our Father Who Art In Heaven, Hallowed Be Thy Name Lest We Forget.
Situated right in front of the Wellington arch. The Royal Artillery Memorial is a First World War memorial located on Hyde Park Corner. The memorial consists of a Portland stone cruciform base supporting a 1/3 over-lifesize sculpture of a howitzer, a type of artillery field gun, which was based on a gun in the Imperial War Museum. At the end of each arm of the cross is a sculpture of a soldier, a shell carrier on the east side, a driver on the west side, and at the rear north a dead soldier. The sides of the base are decorated with relief sculptures depicting wartime scenes.
It's London's largest war memorial and arguably one of the most important 20th Century sculptures. Worth wandering around fully. It encapsulates extent of the war by listing all the places the Army fought in. 1 in 5 soldiers served in the Artillery in WW1. The largest Regiment in the British Army at the time and larger than the Royal Navy. Sadly desicrated by antisemetic pro Hamas terrorist vandals this Rememberance tide.
Looking at this marvelous sculptures for a long time, histories flash back in your head like a black and white movie. It's a great idea to have this kind of monuments. Great.
While you are there, Read the names of the countries, you will find Palestine, bit you will not find the other one.
Nice monument close to some great parks and open spaces. Helpful to sit and reflect and be grateful of those who have suffered for us.
