One of the most poignant war memorials I have ever seen, especially since it took so long to be awarded. Unusual in that it not only commemorates the more than 55,000 aircrew of bomber command killed in WW2, but also the victims of bombing A magnificent detailed bronze, it shows the crew of a heavy bomber, just back from a raid, waiting to see if any of their comrades are returning.
Beautiful structure covering the statues of military personnel.
A amazing memorial to the the brave people who worked at Bomber Command. A truly pieceful place and with a fantastic view of Lincoln Cathedral. The staff are very friendly and I would recommend the guided walk as they are very informative and give you stories of some the names listed especially the story of Lionel Anderson....
This is an amazing tribute to those who gave so others can live in freedom. The statues details are stunning down to the smallest detail of their flying outfits. If you like memorials this is one to visit. About time these brave boys were appropriately immortalised. A very well though out monument, worth a look if you are interested or in the area.
A wonderful tribute to these brave souls who helped win us the war. Felt rather tranquil and peaceful despite its close proximity to the nearby bustling metropolis.
A fantastic memorial to very Brave men who gave their life in the fight from freedom. The sculptures are exquisite in their detail
Very impressive memorial to the RAF Bomber Command crews who served during the Second World War. Aluminium from a Royal Canadian Air Force Handley Page Halifax of No. 426 Squadron that crashed in Belgium in May 1944 was used to build the roof of the memorial.
The Bomber Command Memorial is one of several commemorative monuments in this area of the city. This one in particular is quite impressive to see. Here you will find a well designed memorial building by Liam O'Connor that is dedicated to the 55,573 aircrew who lost their lives during WWII. The memorial was only recently unveiled to the public in 2012. Within the open air structure with large columns, you can see the attractive 2.7 meter sculpture, created by Philip Jackson, featuring seven crewman, who have just finished a flight mission. The sculpture is quite detailed and worthy of time to admire. It has the ability to invoke strong feelings and emotion. Overall, we very much enjoyed seeing the Bomber Command Memorial and find it to be a nice addition to the collection of nearby monuments found at the SE Corner of Hyde Park. In our view, this memorial is well worth seeking out if you intend to spend time in this area of the city. Other similar monuments nearby, at the SE corner of Hyde Park, include the Wellington Arch, Duke of Wellington Statue, Royal Artillery Memorial, Machine Gun Corp Memorial, New Zealand Memorial, Australia Memorial.
This is an amazing tribute to those who gave so others can live in freedom. The statues details are stunning down to the smallest detail of their flying suits etc. A shame it is on such a busy road would suit somewhere tranquil to sit & contemplate but still beautiful
