A place worth driving for longer to reach. I wanted a particular tree that I couldn't find, one staff member went well out of his way to find exactly what I wanted, not easy before the leaves are out and everything looks like twigs, he did this while I carried on looking and took it to the till where I could decide to take it or not. Another staff member took me straight to the ground cover roses I was looking for and both actually knew what I was talking about, itself a rarity in garden centres. Add to this excellent prices and plant quality and it becomes the only place to go and buy plants from if it's within reach.

Simpsons is a lovely traditional nursery where plant lovers can browse the extensive range without tripping over the department store 'tat' that seem to swallow up most garden centres. Occasionally something gets mislabeled, but i've bought so much from here its bound to happen, and the prices are excellent. There is an excellent indoor/outdoor cafe that is really popular for locals for lunch, or try some excellent cakes. I've used it as an informal place to meet colleagues and work at a laptop over coffee and cake - it works well and they don't mind as long as you don't abuse their hospitality

I love this nursery and always find what I'm looking for - worth the drive from Bury St Edmunds. The staff are great and coffee shop excellent.  I was recently involved as a volunteer on the @BBC DIYSOS programme for Simon Dobbin and his lovely family in Mildenhall ( who you may recall was beaten up at a football match some 20 months ago in Southend÷on -Sea and left severely brain damaged and paralysed. Having volunteered my services for 2 weeks and executed the garden design and build for the front garden with the help of several RAF Honiton reserves who are all local tradesman as well,  -  I needed to urgently source plants for the final planting;  once the house refurbish was completed and the scaffolding at the front of the house finally came down. During the last 24 hours,  although I'd obtained a couple of plants from other more local nurseries - my design required a colour palette of black and yellow strucutural plants to represent Simon's beloved team - Cambridge United. These weren't that readily available during mid November and although the two other nurseries had been extremely helpful they weren't able to source the correct plants in keeping with my design.  During the last 12 hours of the build I rushed over to Simpson's at Fordham and the owners were so helpful and generously supplied not only plants,  but also my main feature for the small front garden -  a Malus 'Golden Hornet'. It was perfect - thank you so much.

I found Simpson's Nursery when I was searching for a special memorial tree under which we intended to lay my Dad's ashes. Several suppliers I contacted just were not interested to help me find it. One online supplier wanted £300 for the privilege. The service from Simpsons was fantastic, they sourced the tree for me and set it aside until I could pick it up. It was very well priced at £40. When I visited their site I was amazed at the quality of the stock and how competitively it was priced. The majority of stock is grown onsite and that allows them to be very competitive against the big garden centres. I certainly won't be going anywhere else in future. A huge thank you to the Simpsons team.
