Had a lovely stay at Wells Shap Hotel. Beautiful location. Wonderful service at breakfast and evening meals.We stayed in the outhouse with our dog. The room was OK but needs updating. There was some form of mould, which is to be expected by the age of the building and the remote area, but comfortable enough as we spent most the day out exploring. Loved watching the red squirrels that were in the woods.
Lovely art deco hotel. Rooms warm, clean and comfortable. Service brilliant. In the wilds of nowhere. Went for a Northern soul weekend it was great. Food lovely with plenty of choice. Great breakfast. Lot's to do in the surrounding area. Near to Penrith so a great base for a break. Red squirrels in the grounds.Rooms: 4/5
Just had a two night stay. We couldn't fault it. Nice room, comfy bed and really friendly staff. Food was excellent. If I was to be really picky they could use a different sausage at breakfast preferably a local sourced one and fill a few of the potholes in on the private path down to the hotel. Everything else was excellent. We would definitely recommend staying. Rooms: We had a lovely room. Clean. Warm and comfy bed.
Great base for many walks, hikes not an overly far drive though down windy lanes. We're in the bath house as it's dog friendly. Room lovely, bath, radiator, tea/coffee, stand for suitcase. I'd advise breakfast before 8.30 if a coach party in though they will cook to order. I took a plate to room for my 12yo as clocks went forward! Saw red squirrels in the onlead dog area, great waterfall, wooded walk and a queen Victoria monument. Staff lovely, rooms serviced too! Book direct pay for evening meal once there... Don't be too full for breakfast Rooms: I asked for a room with a bath as hiking some fells! Nearby activities: Visit the squirrel area some nice muddy walks. Are you brave to walk to the waterfall?! Tree swing in woods opposite the bench, further through and out is the monument. Our night time walk we saw a hedgehog! Food & drinks: Breakfast and evening meals
A great hotel that I have stopped at, the location is amazing the hotel is superb if you want a quiet getaway, the rooms are clean decent and spacious. The food was great as well as the staff being very polite and welcoming. The hotel is well secluded so you do need to travel if you need to go anywhere, but the plus on that being that no road noise or light pollution was there. A perfect two night stay which should have been a 4 night stay but sadly cut short of the bad weather. Great walks to be had and a good chance to see different types of wildlife.
Just returned from a 2 night stay here.Lovely peaceful hotel,lots of fascinating history,staff very friendly, helpful and efficient. Room was comfortable,warm,spotlessly clean and spacious with lovely views of surrounding countryside. The breakfast and dinner were great and again excellent service from the staff. Will definitely stay here again when visiting the area,it is a great base to explore the lake district.
Beautiful location, really out in the sticks so the location all depends on what you want if you want the quiet beauty of nature then perfect and actually not too far away from the beauty of the lakes. Red Squirrels and adders, check photos. The Hotel is a little dated but clean and well maintained. Nothing wrong with that!Rooms: 4/5
What a great hidden gem we called to book last minuet after first hotel was a disgrace and they managed to accommodate us staff friendly, Perfect hidden place to go if you want to go to get away for a while, will defiantly be going back soonRooms: 5/5
Loved our stay at Shap Wells, lovely staff, great location and a fantastic building, a real find, plus they have dog friendly rooms! Only marked down slightly as the heating was stuck on in our room and was way too hot but likely a one off, totally recommend staying here Noteworthy details: Dog friendly rooms
We booked a dog friendly room in the bath house however there was no heating on so we were moved to the main hotel and given a room not much bigger than a broom cupboard and still cold. Restaurant was excellent and service was good. Not the best stay we’ve had there can only hope next time will be better.Rooms: 3/5
