We booked one of the cottages with a NYE Party package.nOn arrival we wasn't sure where to check in but followed others.nThe cottage - was warm, cosy and comfortable, just could do with some tea bags/coffee after our journey and a cottage a little maintenance but nothing drastic.nLady Nightingale and The very talented Peter were both friendly, welcoming and super busy entertaining customers.nThe food - was delicious, the dining area was stunning, we enjoyed both NYE Dinner and NY Breakfast , it was clean and classy and dining was managed well considering being under staffed. The large Christmas Tree was extravagantnThe entertainment- bagpiper and pianist peter were fantastic.nThe Evening party and bar was good but would have been better with reasonable prices and beer on tap.nThe Norman centre- we paid extra to explore, was interesting and fun, just be aware with young children of the bloodied beheaded statues on the ground floor and the long, narrow spiral staircase that leads up to the top of the Keep, which can be quite tiring but worth the climb, up to the Amazing views.nOverall- We really enjoyed our stay.nIf your looking for something different, quirky A little spooky with lots of history and your easily pleased, this is your place to stay.nWould we return - YesnDid we enjoy it- Absolutely!nWas it worth the price - Yes if drinks were more reasonably priced.
Stayed here overnight as a stop off on our way back from Scotland.nThe rooms are pretty decent with a good bed. Unfortunately the soundproofing is not so good as we were woken in the night by slamming doors and stomping down the corridor adjacent to our room.nWe had an evening meal and the food was fantastic, really fresh well cooked food.
Our overnight stay was wonderful. The food was delicious, our room was divine and the castle absolutely enchanting.nnThank you Mrs Nightingale and staff, we hope to visit again soon.
We had a very satisfactory stay in a spacious cottage. The restaurant meal we had was excellent. The grounds are good to walk around and the town centre is a short walk down the hill. The Norman Centre had some interesting history of the castle and had a fine view from the top. It was a good centre for walking with Dufton, and walks up Dufton Pike and High Cup Nick only a 10 minute drive.
Awesome experience.nStaying a real castle that's updated enough to be comfortable in the 21st century without losing authenticity.nFood was befitting the aristocratic lineage.nSuperbly situated for the Lakes and North East.nHighly recommend.
