Accommodating American Military and contractors since 1990. More than 800 people stay at Shakespeare Lodge each year. We work closely with the Base Housing Office and all of our units have been inspected by them and are constantly upgraded and kept up to base standards. Our housekeeping staff Clean and change the bedding each week. I have now had to retire following my health problems and my wife and son have now taken over the management. I feel that the team at Shakespeare Lodge will do everything possible to meet your requirements for a trouble free stay. Best regards Chris
So we are a family of six and Everywhere was booked. My husband booked us a 15-day stayJuly 2019 here at Shakespeare's Lodge. After he informed me of where we would stay and I researched the placed I was terrified to go. Upon arrival, I contact Shakespeare and asked if we would have a room without pets due to allergies and asthma in my family. We were told due to our family size we were being placed into an apartment which pets were allowed. So I pull up to the place, the husband was working and it was just me and our four kids. I made them stay inside the car just in case it was just too nasty according to other reviews to stay. Well, Good news...I went inside and the place was better than TLF. It smelt like bleach. All three rooms were clean. The beds were clean, mattresses clean, bathroom clean, kitchen clean. There was nothing...NOT one thing wrong and I am an extremely picky person when it comes to cleanliness. I am Not sure where anyone one else stayed, but my family stayed in the three-bedroom in their Lakenheath village. Thank you to the workers at Shakespeare for hosting my family of six and for great space, which was Totally clean and comfortable!2
I stayed at the Lakenheath location with 3 adult family members for 8 nights. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the beds were clean, fresh and comfortable, the bathroom was large enough to accommodate 2 persons at the same time, and the over all atmosphere was quiet and restful. The staff was friendly and met us with a smile. As I had made my reservation several months ahead of time, Chris and the staff were stellar and answered all my questions about my stay in the area. Kudos to Chris and the staff! The only suggestion I would make is to please provide a coffee maker, or at least a coffee press. The 4 of us are serious morning coffee drinkers and had to do the paper towel pour-over for a couple of days until we could get a coffee press. There are small shops, eating establishments, and a pub in walking distance. Overall I would highly recommend Shakespeare Lodge and it will be my first call when I visit the area again.
Amazing hospitality! The room I stayed in was spotless and the amenities were more than I asked for. Very friendly and helpful staff they have. Highly recommended for those looking for “Short stay” or “OHA” long term. Jan was a key staff member that offered me amazing customer service! 5/5!
We've been here all of 24 hours. Had we known ahead of time the state the rooms were kept in we would not have booked. Upon arriving, around 2 pm, we discovered that two pest bombs had been let off in our room and it had not been given adequate time to clear the room was still completely full of smoke. The carpets have a weird film on them that started turning the bottoms of our feet black from dirt. These are supposed to be the pet-friendly rooms, which should mean that they'd keep up on the carpets due to any pet messes. The dishes still had visible food and grease on them. There is a sink in the bedroom with cabinet storage. Unfortunately, the inside was grimy and looked like it was growing mold. It's obvious that housekeeping doesn't care, no one is coming behind them to check that they've done their job, and yet somehow this is still the place that's being recommended to military. I'm paying £1300 for a dirty, unkept studio apartment. Update: after seeing our review, the owner bribed us with money under the table to take it down.
Very basic accommodation but comfortable stay in all three apartments we were placed. Accommodating and flexible staff to support us with our needs at the time. Easy check in/out. Off road free parking. Location perfect as just a 2 minute walking distance to RAF Mildenhall. Ticks all boxes for what you need in temporary accommodation. Some more recent refurbished places and some older ones no double glazing. Weekly cleaning and laundry services included. Expensive for what you get but for its convenience its worth it.
Shakespeare lodge is definitely a basic 1 star, half a star lodging accommodation. Furniture is all second hand and smells musty. A lot of people have complained about bed bugs, fleas in the sofa etc. I wouldn't recommend this accommodation to anyone. In the rooms there is a small kitchen which has all mix matched cutlery and plates so doesn't look appealing when I looked. The housekeeping and receptionists are lovely and will always help you and be polite, so very happy with that service. Although I have met the boss & his wife, they are very rude and unapproachable when it comes to helping one out with problems in the room or needing help with directions around the area as this was the first time me being in England. So once again I had to call into reception. The outside has rubbish and weeds everywhere which doesn't look good for first impressions.
I would not recommend staying in the pet friendly lodging. The couch smells like urine and after MULTIPLE cleanings the stench still remains. Despite this the staff and the owner never offered to assist or even apologize. The staff are extremely rude and argumentative, they fail to acknowledge their faults. Please change out your couch, it is extremely unsanitary and I will be advising against staying here for future customers.
This place is the worst. Very outdated most things were broken. Beds seem like they never been changed, they are used up.The door locks are hard to open, you have to have it at the exact right spot. Pet friendly area- Garden is not taken care of. The grass is well over grown my dog didnt even want to walk on it. This place is as basic as you can get. Bed, kitchen, toilet. If your looking for comfort it's not here.
Let me start by saying the 1-bedroom accommodation at Shakespeare Lodge is adequate. They have moderately equipped kitchenettes, a sitting area, and a bed--albeit a rickety one. It's far better than not having a place to stay. Additionally, it's a pet-friendly option, which we needed. Based on the facilities alone I'd offer a full 4 stars. As for the missing star: we had been staying at Shakespeare for roughly a month, looking for a more permanent place to stay. After we had found something I offered a courtesy call on a Thursday, stating we might be able to leave the following Tuesday, but we wouldn't be sure until Monday. I was told to just call Monday to let them know. Perfect. Unfortunately our house didn't pass the inspection immediately, which we discovered on Monday evening, after hours. Tuesday morning we were told we had to move out, as they had booked another family in our room that afternoon. They had left my husband a voicemail Friday afternoon which they knew was too soon to confirm whether we would be leaving on Tuesday; and when they didn't hear back, they assumed it was a done deal, apparently. We were certainly to blame for not checking our voicemails, but there should have been more thorough attempts to make contact, I feel, before going ahead with removing us from our tenancy. No one ever actually spoke to us to confirm. We were left scrambling to pack our things and find a place to stay last-minute because of poor communication amongst themselves. I would give a poorer rating, but I understand mistakes happen. It's simply unfortunate that we have to pay hundreds of pounds in alternate lodging to deal with this one. TLDR--Moral of the story: if you're staying here and you plan on moving out soon, keep it to yourself. Let them know when you have moved out, and save yourself a headache, and a pile of money.
