Stayed at Lakenheath during our vacation and this was wonderful, the staff from the personnel that saw to the everyday house keeping tasks to the front desk personnel were knowledgeable, helpful and always polite no matter the situation. Very large compared to what I was expecting. Pleasantly surprised, however, the room was infested with ants. I went to the store and bought lots of raid and killed them myself. The bed feels like it has been folded in half and my wife and I feel like we are sleeping on a roof. We are sleeping on top of each other. We have not had the time to bring it to the attention of management yet.

Overall my experience was excellent. I arrived at 0100 due to a longer than expected wait at the ferry and a weird route from Dover to Lakenheath that somehow went through London(the route was more of an 'L' shape instead of a straight shot). Check in lady was a local national and was cheery, pleasant and helpful (not what you usually experience from the night staff at other hotels). My room was bldg. 908 (I think), room 204. Parking closest to the door (the front lot) was often full but on the back side of the bldg., the lot was nearly empty and to be honest, the walk from that lot was closer than the walk from some of the spaces in the front lot. Positives: clean comfortable cheap room; 200 yard walk to commissary in one direction and 250 yards in the other direction was the exchange. After hours, the 24 hour shopette/gas station was only about a 1/4 mile walk (to the right and kind of behind the commissary). This was where you needed to go to buy alcohol, as I did not find any at the main exchange or the commissary. The gas is for those stationed in the area, with a fuel ration card, or those on TDY with orders. But, as you fill up before paying, you may find this out too late as I did. In Germany, they would make you pay the off-base prices. Here, they were very forgiving. I did experience a few minor problems, but they did not detract from my stay: On the window on the right, the lower window latch broke off of the frame when I was trying to close the window. It gave me a small cut on my thumb, but I cleaned it and it stopped bleeding right away, so I figured it was no big deal. The window probably needs to have the closing mechanism adjusted, lubed or replaced because I am sure that the amount of force needed to close the window, over many, many, times it has been opened and closed over the years, was instrumental in the latch eventually breaking off. The second problem item I experienced was the clock radio which stopped functioning after the first day. Again, no big deal. I used my alarm on my phone anyway. The only thing I experienced that was less than excellent was that the housekeeping staff kept wanting to clean my room. I was travelling alone, reusing my towels, staying for 4 nights. I don't need them to clean my room, nor did I want them in my room as I was working out of my room. I put my trash in the shared kitchenette, where it was emptied daily, and the coffee maker was in there as well, so it was restocked daily. But they called twice, *and* left a note under my door saying that 'policy' was they had to come in every three days to clean no matter what. I called and spoke to the front desk and eventually they took care of it for me, but it was a bit of a hassle. Other than that, everything was great!
