Hotel has a good location for access to central Kendal, which is just over the river. On site free car park is extremely convenient. Tge hotel also has a lovely position next to the river, with many of the rooms overlooking it, as well as the main restaurant and breakfast restaurant. Outside seating over the river would be lovely in tge summer.nThe health club facilities were included with our hotel stay.large gym, Good pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna we're all clean and quiet.nRoom and bathroom was adequate with firm mattress. River view was a very nice. Hot Buffet breakfast by the river was also good.nMain restaurant and bar was modern relaxing and cosy. However food menu was small and very typical pub grub, not at all in keeping with the smart restaurant surroundings. Food quality was OK. Given the restaurants/hotels location they really need at least some signature dish to draw in more than the hotel patrons, and being so close to kendal, you would be better served eating in town. Which is a shame as the restaurant itself is very nice.nFor our one night stay, free parking, short walk to kendal and spa access the hotel was good value. A revamped main menu for the restaurant could really pull in additional business for the well positioned hotel.
Lovely few days here. Staff were friendly and helpful. Very dog friendly. Great looking out onto the river. Not far to walk into the town. Cooked breakfast was very nice. Leisure facilities were good and the pool water wasn't cold either lol....
In the heart of Kendal with absolutely amazing sauna and pool facilities. We have already rebooked, as we like Kendal but the sauna & steam rooms were top notch and swung it for us. Free for hotel guests with free parking too.
Generally, friendly reception staff who greeted us and the dogs warmly.nExplanation of how breakfast worked if you have your dogs with you.nRoom decent size with chairs and small table, decent view over river from ground floor, but far too hot for us, no info in rooms re opening windows, they have catches preventing you from raising bottom sash too high and cant reach top sash hooks to pull down so had to wedge open with towel.nRoom and bathroom clean.nBath plug had to prise out with spoon as no lever to lift it.nShower head difficult to get under 5'9ish and had to stoop to wash hair but water hot. Shower/bath control a bit iffy and maybe needs some maintenance.nHousekeeping replenished stuff next day but left our dirty glasses.nBar was ok for one drink just not to our personal liking, music too loud and no draft beers, decoration and seating not cosy and not particularly comfortable.nDidnt use spa facilities so no comment.nNow the bit for dog owners if you take your dogs with you to breakfast, ours are rescue and are very vocal when left alone so not fair on them or neighbouring guests to leave in room.nYou have to sit downstairs in bar area with dogs, buffet breakfast on first floor.nWe were told someone would come and sort our breakfast out, refill teas and coffees. They didnt. First morning we had some assistance carrying tray down but plates tepid and no closh so it was tepid when we ate. Anything forgotten you have to go and get yourself.nNext day not even an offer of help carrying trays downstairs, via two closed doors!nAsked for hot plate on second morning which they provided but whilst waiting mentioned the problem of having to carry own breakfast but just looked at me blankly.nSo infirm people or single people with dogs could have a problem.nShame as hotel does feel dog friendly until breakfast at which point you again become second class guest as if in a non dog friendly place.nOverall breakfast has lost them 2 stars for this visit and I personaly think the management need to rethink policy or have a staff member permanent downstairs during breakfast to assist and make sure plates hot and closhes provided and serving guests at table.nOh, and second morning used glasses and bottles left on tables in bar area, so someone had set tables for breakfast but left dirties on adjacent tables, not good housekeeping and makes unpleasant surroundings.n£300 for 2 nights B&B, dissapointed.
Booked through Booking.com for a two night stay. After realising that I had made an error with the dates I immediately cancelled and rebooked for the correct dates. Not realising straight away that I had been charged for the full amount for cancelling. Whilst there, I asked a gentleman, with a foreign accent, on reception if he would look into this. He said he would, and would send a relevant email, but he didn’t fill me full of confidence and he obviously didn’t do this. I don’t think this warrants paying a cancellation fee as I simply moved the dates to a week earlier but have ended up paying double for a two night stay. Thanks for all the help to the gentleman on reception, much appreciated. Between Booking.com and the Riverside Hotel you’ve done me out of £185. Apart from that, the stay was very pleasant.
