our last day in york and we wanted to venture around the city centre once more. this car park was much cheaper than the one we used a few days ago, it came to £8 for two hours! never been to a city that charges as much for parking than the lovely city of york. i am not used to this down in the midlands so perhaps this is normal. plenty of parking available today. i did love the glass lift as i think they’re so fun to look out of.
I parked here for 24 hours and paid £27.50, which feels reasonable given its prime location right next to the city centre. The car park is secure, with onsite security and an information desk for added peace of mind.nnI’d definitely recommend it as access is controlled by a barcode ticket for entry and exit, and the facilities appear to be well maintained and in excellent condition overall.
A dynamic pricing system means you are charged around £2 per hour if you enter early morning, but if you enter between 10am & 3pm it is £4.10 per hour! This is regardless of how long you stay. So spending an afternoon in York cost me £28.50 just to park! Daylight robbery. No concessions for blue badge holders either... Compare this with the short stay on Coppergate, just a couple of streets away, which gives unlimited free parking to blue badge holders!
Nice clean well maintained carpark. Corners a bit tight in some places if your in a big car reasonably priced for a city centre. parking prices change different times of day are different prices. Strange!!
3/5 – medieval charm, modern parking panic, and a constant low-level time crisisnnQ-Park Shambles in York is what happens when a beautiful historic city says:n“Let’s add parking… but make it feel like a mildly stressful side quest.”nnFirst impressions are great — you’re right in the middle of everything. The Shambles, York Minster, endless cute shops you absolutely did not plan to spend money in… it’s all there. You park up thinking: “This is ideal. Easy day.”nnNarrator: it is not easy.nnLet’s start with the two hidden plot twists nobody warns visitors about:nn 1. It’s cheaper if you live here.nWhich is lovely for locals and deeply humbling for visitors. You arrive thinking “parking, how bad can it be?” and leave feeling like you’ve paid a small historical tax to enter York.nn⏰ 2. The closing time will live in your head all day.nYou start off enjoying York like a normal human… then slowly descend into:n“Wait… what time do we need to be back?”n“Are we too far away?”n“Should we abandon the museum and power-walk like we’re in a heist movie?”nnBy late afternoon you’re basically speed-running the city:nnadmiring The Shambles while mentally calculating minutesnbuying fudge with one eye on the clocknwalking like you’re in a very polite emergencynnThe parking itself?nClean, secure, well-located… but tight enough that you suddenly become aware of your car’s exact width and all your past driving decisions.nnPeak times turn it into a gentle chaos simulator:nnpeople circling for spaces like it’s competitive sportnslow exits that make you question your life choicesnthat moment you think “I swear I parked closer to the exit than this…”nnOnline reviews basically sum it up as:nnexcellent locationnsafe and convenientnbut expensive and busy at peak timesnnWhich is corporate language for:n“Great place, just bring patience, planning skills, and emotional resilience.”nnBut honestly… it is incredibly handy. You step out and you’re instantly in the heart of York, which is both a blessing and a trap for your wallet and your schedule.nnOverall vibe:n “Beautiful city break with an invisible countdown timer and slightly aggressive pricing logic.”nnFinal verdict:nPerfect location, very useful, very central… but for visitors it comes with:nnmild financial shocknconstant clock-watchingnand a dramatic last-minute return journey that feels like a missionnnWould I park here again?nYes.nnWould I relax while doing it?nNot even slightly
