Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is a nice place to hangout with family and friends. If you are fond of history and ships, this is one of the places to be. There are coffee shops and souvenir shops inside, kids will love this place too. We went in for free, minus attractions, but there are optional tickets to buy if you want to experience it fully. The free ticket will get you to some attractions. Many toilets accessible for wheelchairs as well.
Nice place to walk around with lots of shops and restaurants close by. Great history. The harbour tour is also woth the money, very enjoyable, the narrative made everybody laugh while feeding all the facts. We couldn't afford to go in the main dockyard but I have been before and enjoyed it. Today was a walk around the outside and around the area.
It's an expensive day out but you get LOADS for your money! The ships are wonderful. The "actors" are really knowledgeable and just fantastic. Then the Navy Dockyard is visible via the harbour tour included in the price. A great day.
This is a great place to visit. We spent all day there but did not get to see everything, but we did get to visit HMS Warrior, Mary Rose, Victory, boat trip around the harbour, and HMS 33. The ultimate ticket costs £51 but you can come back throughout out the year and to see everything you will need to. What made it even better was that both of the Royal Navy's aircraft carriers were both in the harbour.
Buy the ultimate Explorer tickets, take at least a couple of day visits, so much to see. Mary Rose is extremely good. Victory and Warrior have quite a few steps but are worth it. Take a 45-minute harbour tour. Also, take the water bus to Gosport to see the submarine museum. It's amazing. Go on board a submarine. There are lots of other museums too. This ticket is valid all year ,so we went over two days.
Get the ultimate year pass, it's worth it even if you go once as there is so much to do. The Victory, Mary rose and Warrior are fascinating to see, it's great, you also can have a boat tour round the docks and get boats to transport you to other museums. We had a great day.
We’ve purchased the ultimate tickets as it’s better value. It gives you a whole year admission. We tend to generally visit when there are special events on to see something new. During the events they always have interactive things which my daughter loves. At one point during the winter there was a Tudor candle making activity my daughter loved. But even without those special events there is so much to do and see! My daughter is a part time wheelchair user and it was easy to use the wheelchair there as there grounds are flat and there are plenty of lifts to get to the other floors if needed. Carers get a free ticket so I only had to pay for my girl’s ticket . There are plenty of places indoors. If you live in Portsmouth or nearby, it’s worth getting an annual ticket to keep the kids entertained, especially during the school holidays.
Landing craft boat trip was fabulous, definitely recommend even though you will get wet. 4 for the price of 3: good for families. Such a hidden gem that should be advertised more!! Can enter the site free but may need to pay to enter specific ships. Ali Cat is also family friendly, commentary included on tour. Mary Rose cafe looks very cool as well. Good for a day out with the family
Great place for all ages. We visited with our 2 boys 12&5 and they both loved it. So much to take in, so highly recommended getting the ultimate explorer ticket so you can come back and do all the attractions. Food and drinks are very pricey so recommend bringing a picnic especially if you're a family. All the staff throughout the whole dockyard were great. They all interacted with the children brilliantly and there were lots of hands on things and activities around to keep the younger one occupied. Spent 2 days here and still not finished so planning on coming back again soon.
I've been to the dockyard a few times now, but this was the first time I've made it to the explosion museum, which is a boat trip to Priddys Hard, where the munitions used to be made and stored. It was another good addition to the dockyard itinerary and makes return trips more interesting as I don't think it's possible to see everything in one go, across all 3 sites. Once back at Portsmouth, we headed to the Mary Rose exhibition, which is an incredible collection of artifacts and information from the ship, well set out to be interesting and informative. Of course, the star is the remains of the Mary Rose herself, which, due to the conservation work, presentation and low light, is very impressive to behold. There is loads more to view and do in the dockyard, more than we could fit in so I'm sure we'll be back again hopefully utilising our free return tickets.
