There are quite a few things to see in the Historic Dockyards, but the museum is not high on my list of favourites. It is not very big, nor very spectacular. Of interest is the section on how sailors were fed in the 1700s and 1800s, and to a lesser extent the one on Nelson. I think it deserves more time to visit the spectacular museum ships HMS Warrior, HMS Victory.
Being fond of old sailing ships, I had to see the HMS Warrior closely. If you want to do so, you'll have to purchase a ticket to get in to visit the huge place. Most attractions are included, but if you wish to visit the HMS Warrior, it'll cost you £36 , which is rather dear. Should you skip the ship, the rest of the museum is fantastic and deserves a visit. Be prepared to walk, though.
Cracking day out with the family. Kids 6 & 7 enjoyed themselves. Harbour tour was great with the two aircraft carriers in full view. Will definitely be back!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Another day out to the Historic Dockyard. This time we visited the Royal Navel museum. Marvellous place with lots of History for young and old alike. I was especially knocked out by the Admiral Nelson artefacts. So much and well presented. The main museum is fantastic with all the elements of the Royal Navy displayed. One item to look for is the original 42lb, 3.5 ton cannon salvaged from the first Victory with sank in the early 1700's. Fantastic condition and it was still loaded when brought up. A brilliant day out and a must for all sea dogs
Another wonderful day out here. The full family experience tickets let you come back again and again throughout a whole.l calendar year. Still not managed to bore the children who keep on making us come back to see more and more.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
We arrived on a sunny day with a slight breeze so that was good. We bought our tickets online for £31 each. You can park just around the corner for £7 , there's a co-op there so it's worth getting a few drinks and sandwiches if you want. After having our bags checked we went to the submarine museum across the water using the water bus which is included in the price -great!. We then did the various museums, toured Victory -great, had ice-cream £2 for cone is fair We also saw the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier- not part of the museum yet though! After a break we then walked around Warrior , great , we really enjoyed it . We'd recommend it
Extremely disappointing. I travelled all the way from Australia to discover there is absolutely nothing about the First Fleet which left Portsmouth in 1787 to colonise Australia. But to make matters worse no-one even knew what the First Fleet was!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

OMG. If you are looking for a Xmas present that keeps on giving then this as a part of the Portsmouth Dockyard experience is a gift which keeps on giving. You can go back as many times as you want within the year. Believe me you need to as you cannot do it all within a couple of days.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Very good interpretation. Modern layout which should appeal to all ages. Starts with a Nelson Gallery that focuses on the Adult life of Nelson. Some interesting artifacts but we felt it was built arrond those rather than aspects of his life. To be fair it was more a focus on the Naval Career. Some with a more academic need may feel that the overall history of the Navy was a bit light.
