Since I was a teenager, it has been my dream to visit Mary Rose. Love Tudor history so it was a privilege to see her in real life. Wow, I can just imagine what a great powerful ship she was. And how puzzling to why she sank so close to Portsmouth docks for hundreds of years without anyone knowing. It's still a puzzle today. My heart goes to those who died. Only 35 survived out of around 500. There are 3 levels. All by lift, so pushchairs and wheelchair friendly. Toilets top floor too. Once on the top floor, you see Mary Rose in flesh. That smell just hits yousuch a strange tar smell it made me feel sombre and gave me chills. The 4d drive experience was amazing to experience when they found her and how they recovered her. So if you haven't visited yet. Go and see our Tudor beauty that our King Henry VIII. Once stood and our Queen Elizabeth I also. History to remember forever.
The recovered and preserved wreck of a ship from the time of King Henry VIII. Besides the remains of the wreck not in the best condition... you can see a lot of things recovered from it, such as cannons, weapons, personal items, human skeletons or even the skeleton of a dog that lives on the ship. A lot of explanations, which help you understand what life was like on board the ship, what and how those people ate, what diseases they suffered from. A very hard work done by the restorers, historians and the rest of the team that set up the museum!
It’s Eddie the bear here, a close friend of Neville. This weekend I got my hoomans to take me to visit this amazing museum. As you can see from my pictures I had a great time. They have spent a lot of time transforming this museum making it interactive and very informative. The staff that work there are also very friendly to us bears. They also do a very nice chocolate cake in the cafe. For all my bear friends get your owners to bring you along.
Loved visiting the Marie Rose. Stunning exhibition. Did the harbour tour as well. Well worth every penny spent. Lunch there was good too. Very educational for the kids too.
She is such a unique time capsule. It is an extremely well organised and entertaining exhibition. Lot to see and read about the ship. Amazingly preserved and restored items used by the crew on Mary Rose despite being under the sea for hundreds of years. The 4D cinema provides more details of how the ship was found and raised from the bottom of the sea to the visitors.
Our bus from Southampton was late so we only had two hours to visit the Portsmouth historic dock. We chose this as the one attraction to see and it did not disappoint. Really well put together museum. The huge original ship remains are the centre of the museum with several rooms in the huge four storey space around the remains. I loved how it was laid out, with all the artifacts being on the floor they were originally located in. The top floor you could hear wind and noises like you were out at sea, a really nice touch. Such a trove of artifacts and the ship itself was amazing to see. Probably the closest I have felt to having a connection to a historic place as everything was original and so well preserved.
Our second time of visiting the Mary rose museum this year and would highly recommend to explore this amazing piece of history and the amazing story of how she was refloated. Don't rush your visit and give yourself a good few hours to explore and enjoy this piece of history. Don't forget to visit the 4d experience and the coffee shop at the end.
Fantastic museum . Very informative. Couldn’t believe how much stuff had been salvaged and gave a great insight into the times. Visit a beautiful 500 year old ship wreck, learn the ship history, how it sank and was salvaged. It is amazing to see the ship side which has survived for 500 years, but what makes it a great museum is all the artifacts they found onboard. You can view the ship hull from different heights. The 4d movie in the end of the tour is also good.
I was so impressed by everything in this museum. The way the ship is displayed, the mirror walkways and the artifact displays. So interesting, so amazing to see. The projections on the ship brought it to life. The staff were chatty and friendly. One came to talk to us as she said, you sound like you are really enjoying the visit, and we had a great conversation about the ship and the museum. The 4d experience is worth watching. I can't fault any of this. How on earth did all of that survive?
